This year’s event had a prize pool of just over $2.5m. The $10m guarantee, with a buy in staying at $5,300, means a quadrupling of entries will be expected. Kevin Eyster beat 541 other players to take the WPT title this year, and pocketed $660k in the process.
At the end of August, Blair Hinkle won the $10m guaranteed Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open at the same casino, and went away with $1.7m.
PartyPoker has re-launched its brand with new software, complete with missions and achievements to attract players used to social gaming. It is now investing serious money in its WPT live events to get the TV coverage and market reach it needs to revitalize its poker room.
US ambitions could see the return of PartyPoker to the US as early as November. A partnership with the Borgata casino in Atlantic City is expected to launch an online poker room as soon as regulatory approvals are completed.
