Online poker is not regulated and legal in Northern Cyprus, however no strict laws apply in comparison to the Southern Island of Cyprus. Casinos and poker are popular pastimes and Turkish Cypriot players have no issues accessing online poker rooms.
Some poker ISPs may be blocked, albeit inefficiently and easy to access by VPN.
Update – PokerStars and Full Tilt withdrew from Turkey Oct 1, 2014, no longer accepting online play from Turkey. Northern Cypriot players were affected because their internet connections were recognised as having a Turkish IP. Players reported on the forums being able to play if they were able to change their IP.
E-wallets Skrill (formerly Moneybookers) and Neteller are preferred by many grinders as they avoid fees and taxes associated with banks and gambling transactions, and don’t require you to share banking information with poker sites.

Yes! As shown in the table above Cypriot players are not segregated from the rest of the international PokerStars playerpool (in the way e.g. France, Italy and Spain are). Plan your yearly VPP goals with Rakeback.com’s exclusive PokerStars Rakeback Calculator.
Online Poker In Northern Cyprus – Do I Need a VPN?
For the initial download, a VPN be necessary. Playing online poker is not yet regulated in Northern Cyprus and as such the domains of some internet gambling providers may be blocked.
While a poker room’s domain may be down, preventing new players from downloading the client, those who have already downloaded the software can still log in and play unrestricted. The sites are based offshore (e.g. Malta / Gibraltar) with EU licenses – balances and cashouts remain safe despite one country’s internet censorship.
If you are unable to download a poker client simply use a cheap VPN service such as StrongVPN or HideMyAss to do so. After install it is no longer necessary to use a VPN although some grinders continue to do so if playing over public wifi, for extra security. Site reps have confirmed on the forums that VPNs are not prohibited, with the exception of VPN use to play online from the US.
Poker legislation can change on a day to day basis – contact us by email if you have difficulties getting online to play and for the latest rakeback information.
