Well take it with a grain of salt because I am known to be overly tight sometimes, but in this case with that bet of his and that flop, I would say 99 would be a fairly easy lay down considering he was the first to act and bet out then called your raise.
Most likely, he probably called you a donkey because he probably felt that you had him beat until he saw your hand --- and he probably was thinking to himself that if you had bet out, he'd have folded the best hand. So, with this said, the aggression could have paid you off rather than vice versa...then you wouldn't have had to show the bluff, and you would have taken down the pot. With playing aggressive comes risk...but with the risk comes great reward. When you sense weakness, jump on the opportunity. You'll find many times it will work to your advantage far more often than not.
In many cases, aggressiveness does tend to work in situations where you are heads up with a hole pair....but in this case I guess all I can really say is it was just bad timing, and a lack of aggression that cost you the pot...because the other player had you beat...and you didn't take the opportunity to push him out of the pot when he checked twice.
One thing you can't do.......don't EVER let table talk get to you. People do this intentionally to screw with your head, and if you let it get to you, it will end up costing you dearly. The best way to get back at someone talking smack is to ignore them and don't respond. If they see it's not getting your goat, they'll give up and leave you alone....and if they don't, that's what the good ol' "Block Chat" button is for! |
