Cheers again for your thoughts.
Actually I think you could have picked it up on the turn too.

Put yourself in his shoes, and play the hand through.(You should try to do this as much as possible.) I raised, and dude directly to my right re-raised. I'm saying pocket pair or nice A drawing to start with.

He bet the flop. You called, which I'm sure was a smooth call. So now he's thinking you spiked top pair or maybe hidden trips. As evidenced by his checking to you.

(Careful some players slow play aggressors)

If he checked on the turn. You should have bet about 1/2 pot. He would have probably thought you were value betting him and walked away. If he had you beat he would most likely raise and try to get your whole stack in.

I think lilLady is right. He called you a donk, cuz he thought you had him beat, and he would have folded.
The only donking was not following through on your aggression. Which like you said is learned, and I'm sure you'll be learning it quickly. I don't think ya donked. I think ya played safe.

Not a bad hand. At the very least you played it safe, and kept your stack. He could've been slow playing you or the like.

Sometimes it's better to wait and know you have someone, than try to make a hero play/call, and lose your whole stack.

Ofcourse my hand advice is circumstantial to the actual table play. The situation might have been different, but I think from what's described. This would have worked.
