Once you get passed AA and AK how do you feel about Ace-?.
AQ suited looks so nice but is vulnerable to many hands and draws. And it gets worse from there as you work down to A2 off. Kicker problems are abound the lower you go.
I am not one to fall in love with A-?. Once AK is out of the picture most all other cards with the A start to look like rags. When you raise with AJ and an A hits what if the other player bets, calls or raises you, does your pair of aces still look good? Without a preflop raise you can mostly say the other player does not have AK, beyond that how do you like A-? (withstanding AK)?
Say you play A9 and the flop is 9 - rag - rag. You have top pair, top kicker, but must now worry about 10-10, J-J and Q-Q. (AA and KK are always problems to deal with).
Thanks,
