"how much is enough?"

Well that depends on your goal. Do you play for a hobby, or are you in it for the long haul?

I personally worth with a method like this:

I ALWAYS keep 50 (yes,I am a nit) buy-in's for the game I play. (Usually $2/$4 NL-$3/$6)

I figure out my total monthly bills/expenses. That I withdrawl at the begining of every month.

I than cash out $400 per week, every week as my "money". I cash this out whether I won 20k,$1 or even lost money.

Lets say I had an unbelievable month where I profited double what I normally make. I put 50% (Normal winnings) back into cashier, I take 25% and leave back in cashier as a nice profit, working towards moving up in levels, and I take 25% of it out as a bonus.

I know that was broad, but that is basically how I work it.
