A9 is actually a decent hand deep in a tournament when the blinds are getting high and you have a healthy stack. People tend to play extremely tight with big blinds, so it's a great way to steal blinds/antes from late position. Not to mention of course the fact that changing gears is pretty much a must in poker so if you've been playing very tight and not getting hands, why not play one of those or suited paint connectors once in a while...
