I do agree with this as being a problem not just online but in the general gambling community. It seems the mentality behind it is that if they just had one more chance, they could undo whatever they've done to lose all their money and win it all back. Sign of addiction #1.

Getting loans is just adding insult to injury...a desperate act of a desperate gambler. You're not only putting yourself farther and farther in debt, but now, you don't just owe yourself, you owe other people...and that can be dangerous.

Granted it's not likely someone online would be able to hunt you down to get their money back, but there are other consequences to think about. And if it is a loan shark you're dealing with in a place like Vegas, well, then you're in deeper than you should be for sure.

Best solution: Only play what you can afford to play with. If you can't afford it at the moment, take up another hobby that won't cost you anything until you save up enough that you can afford to lose if you play.
