I am very much opposed to loans for gambling. The best poker players in the world can hit bad beat after bad beat even though they are playing "correct" poker. Loaning money out to people, or receiving loans from people shouldn't be allowed.

With that being said, I sometimes play in friendly live games, and the buy-ins are very small stakes. If a friend is wanting to play but doesn't have the cash on hand at the time, I'll usually loan out the money to them if they meet two conditions... one is that I know they are good for the cash, and two is that the stakes are very low. This way during our fun games, more people play, and it's advantageous to get more people to play for a fun friendly game with micro stakes. However, beyond this, no loans ever.
