The value of sitting with the maximum comes from being willing and able to get all those chips in play when you have the best of it. If you are unable or unwilling to play for stacks or do not have the skills to play for stacks profitably, you might be better off sitting with less. Basically, if you are really bad playing the turn and river for post sized bets then you might consider sitting down with less so your making fewer decisions on those later streets. What you lose in equity from your monsters, you make up by reducing your bad decisions on the most expensive streets in NL.

Yeah, I think most people should sit with the max... at a level where they can afford to learn to play the whole way. But if you're self-aware enough to know your areas of weakness, then play in a way that reduces those areas the most.
