I am a self taught poker player So I was just wondering can any1 out there recommend any books or websites that might help me on my way.

As far as books, if you're just starting out, you could start out with Phil Gordons little book set...there's a little red book, a little green book and a little black book, all with different helpful info. Once you're comfortable with what you read in those, move up to David Sklansky books and Dan Harrington's as well.

Doyle Brunson's books are great, but you could probably finish reading the Christian Bible quicker...his books are HUGE...lol

Done. Hope you find something helpful and good luck in your learning! Don't forget to sign up for a rakeback deal here once you're ready to start playing. You're very lucky to have found Rakeback so soon in your game. Many people play for years not even knowing they can get this money back.
There's also a beginner's forum here as well, so some questions you might have may have already been answered in that forum. Honestly, if you have the time for reading, I'd browse through this entire forum one section at a time. Many good posts end up in the wrong section, but our mods and staff are very good about keeping things organized, so you should have no trouble finding information here.

I really liked Harrington on Hold Em volumes I and II. They are fantastic for tournament players. Brought my game to a new level. I still go back and read them now and then, especially if I feel my game is slipping.

Read Theory of Poker, and once you are experienced and understand some of theory, read No Limit Hold'em Theorry and Practice. That book will change your poker life for the better. If your a tournament player, read all three harrington on hold'em books. If your a cash game player, read, and re-read and re-read No Limit Hold'em Thoery and Practice, then go read Professional no limit hold'em.

Can't say I agree with this.

You can save yourself a lot of time advancing your game by reading books written by pros, much the same as you may pick up the odd nugget in this forum. This does not mean everyone who reads these books will play exactly the same. You should always play a style you are comfortable with and use info from others to enhance that style.

You could also "re-invent the wheel" for many other things in life, but the quicker way is to learn something from others who have "made it".

hey kkirl, me too, what i know about poker is also self taught ;-)

unfortunately i can't call a webpage my own, so i can't give u a link to one where u can find all thoose wonderful links to websites with really great content like some others here do, but if u still are interested in a good website, i can give you the link via mail, or could that perhaps also due to possible conflicts of interest? i don't know. but what i know is that my favorite site gives me not only the possibility of using a forum, i also can participate in good structured articles and in in lots of videos - it's good mixture.
