BETTER GET THERE - A JOURNEY
The purpose of this blog is to teach myself (and all the readers) how to become a successful poker player. This means starting from $2000 and working my way up to big games.
I will post statistics and strategies as well as stories and facts from the "real life" away from the computer.
Getting to be a successful poker player is not just about playing poker and thinking about it. It's also taking care of your health (both physical and mental), planning your future and other things that have nothing to do with poker.
Journey to big games starts now and I ... better get there.

Background and some future plans

Background:
I have played poker for few years from which it was two years my only source of income. I did pretty well playing games up to 10/20 NL until few horrible drunken days early 2007... I lost pretty much everything resulting in ”Life Tilt” (in some instances people have used term “Perma Tilt” to describe same kind of tilt).
Few words about Life Tilt... it’s a state of mind in which everything seems to go just plain wrong. Every coin flip lost feels like a bad beat and every bad beat feels like you have been brutally one outered… You also fail to see anything wrong in your game when in reality - everything is wrong in your game. You keep repeating same mistakes all over again, those being bad plays or playing drunk and tired.
To get out of this nerve wrecking tilt the most important thing is to quit playing for a while. Not days, not weeks but months. Do something totally different and get your mind out of poker. Read books, watch movies, meet people and do other things that interest you. It’s hard at the beginning but in the end it’s worth it.
Get back to poker when you think you want to compete again and be better than the rest. It’s not about the money, it’s the competition. Developing your skills to beat new levels of play is what it’s all about. Making money at the same time is just a nice extra… And remember. Make strict rules for your playing and comply with those.
In addition to Life Tilt I had managed to get 20ish pounds of extra weight due to excessive use of alcohol and lots of parties. And I still have to graduate from university. That's a lot to do I say.
To summarize everything – it’s all because of lack of self-discipline.
Future:
Plans for the future are simple: start playing good and get better in poker again, lose those 20ish pounds of extra weight and graduate. Sounds simple when it’s written in a sentence.
To be able to do all that I’m going to share my thoughts on all subjects, though concentrating on poker. I will post videos, hand histories, tournament reports and general ideas about every aspect of poker starting next post.
As I mentioned above one should have strict rules for poker which to follow and I’m going to set those rules in the next post.

| | I am surprised that you have not got the feedback from rakeback members that I would expect. What are you going to do if you wind up losing all the bankroll? When do you decide to take some cash out? Personally, a living at this poker thing is in my sites also. I'd love to watch you play, maybe you can give a schedule of your play times? |
