BETTER GET THERE - A JOURNEY
The purpose of this blog is to teach myself (and all the readers) how to become a successful poker player. This means starting from $2000 and working my way up to big games.
I will post statistics and strategies as well as stories and facts from the "real life" away from the computer.
Getting to be a successful poker player is not just about playing poker and thinking about it. It's also taking care of your health (both physical and mental), planning your future and other things that have nothing to do with poker.
Journey to big games starts now and I ... better get there.

Yesterday I played FTOPS #8 6-max knockout and after a nice start I ended up card dead and placed out of the money. I also got seat to FTOPS #10 which I decided to skip to be able to get to work early enough. Today is #11 which is limit texas, the variation of hold'em I started with, so I'm definitely playing that. Nice bonus is that it starts early enough...
About omaha and equity. Every serious poker player should now how to calculate hand equities. For omaha I've been using ProPokerTools (ProPokerTools.com - Serious tools for serious players). It's fast and it works on a browser, so no downloads needed. It has good syntax summary on the web page but only thing that is not shown there is calculating hand equity against different ranges of hands.
Example syntax for ranges:
board: Ts7d5h
hand1: AAQJ
hand2: JT89,8976,6453,QJT9,T7**,TT**,77**,55**
Above would calculate AAQJ equity vs broad range of an opponent. (as a side note, equity of AAQJ is 24.24%)
I recommend that you try it out immediately and learn the basics. Next time I will start a series of basic equity calculations.
