BETTER GET THERE - A JOURNEY

The purpose of this blog is to teach myself (and all the readers) how to become a successful poker player. This means starting from $2000 and working my way up to big games.

I will post statistics and strategies as well as stories and facts from the "real life" away from the computer.

Getting to be a successful poker player is not just about playing poker and thinking about it. It's also taking care of your health (both physical and mental), planning your future and other things that have nothing to do with poker.

Journey to big games starts now and I ... better get there.

It's been a while since last post and I totally blame summer for it. It's been awesome to have this kind of a weather, temperature being above +23 C (73F) for almost two weeks. Being rare, one needs to enjoy it to the fullest and instead of grinding out inside I have been running, hanging out in parks and terraces etc. I feel relaxed.

___________

Pokerwise month's stats look like this:

PLO100 (HU) 700 hands -$139.55 (1.4 bi)
PLO100 (6max) 15,295 hands -$1,076.65 (10.7 bi)
PLO50 (6max) 10,072 hands -$282.8 (2.8 bi)
= -$1,499

45 tournaments (avg buy-in $42), total cost $4,510 profit $2,602 ROI 136%,

Total Net Rake $3,169.02 Total rakeback $855.63

Total bankroll: ~$4,100
___________

Tournaments have been pretty good even though I have made some big mistakes earlish/middle tournament and those leaks must be fixed to get even better results. Mostly it's been me overvaluing my top pair or me not respecting opponent's raises. More on this subject later.

In omaha I've been playing just plain bad for most of the time and running bad the rest. Since I have been multi-tabling (6+) my vpip has been quite low and therefore my equity preflop has been good. Not that it really matters in omaha.

Flop till river my equity in general has been too low compared to my bets. I examined my hand histories a bit and found three big leaks:

1. Don't overvalue two pair against normal opponents
2. Playing non-nut flushes / flush draws is just not worth it in most situations.
3. Play cautiously with pairs under QQ

These rules are good for levels I play now. I still have to adjust my play to better suit low stakes after I got used to bigger PLO and it's aggressiveness.

All in all I have to be kinda happy with my results for this month. Didn't play much and in the end bankroll is doubled. I will enjoy these last sunny days for a while and get back to grinding next week.

As a last note it's just awesome how much I made in rakeback compared to time used. So if you don't have a rakeback deal, get one from our beloved Rakeback.com immediately!

Glad to hear your enjoing the summer. I find that I don't play nearly as much in the summer.
I like the 3 leaks you mentioned. Those were my worst leaks, especially when I was trying to recover from a downswing. I think in part "PUSHING the ISSUE" with the mind set "It's My Turn!"
Right now I'm still playing at much lower levels than you, but If I keep playing smart and manage my BR properly, I'll be there.

Good to hear an update from you and I look forward to you next Blog!

I like reading this blog, but I would have two suggestions:

1. Please post more frequently.

2. Please use normal monetary markings with decimal places (instead of using commas). It makes it much easier to decipher.

I admit that I should have posted more frequently but as I said those rare sunny days made me do otherwise. It shouldn't be an excuse as blog readers and everyone else like regularity. I will be posting twice a week (or more) from now on.

I corrected the monetary markings also. Commas are so Finnish

Powrdragn: Do you think it would be better to have exact week days when blog is updated or does it matter as long as it's regulary?

Boilermaker: Good luck with your project. With proper bankroll management you will get there And if you have any interesting topics for my strategy posts let me know.

Nah, I don't think you need particular days. Most of us that are interested probably read the forum no less than four days a week anyway. We'll just check it when we are in.
