Taking the Chris Ferguson challenge

Posted 3rd July 2008 at 01:59 PM by mollila

rakeback.com user gamer4life27 had the idea of Lets take the Chris Ferguson challenge! in the forums, and I thought I'd also join in with the others and see if my nerves can take the test.

The Goal is $0 to $10,000
I will start playing with a bankroll of zero dollars, and try to build that bankroll to $10,000 by following the same set of bankroll management rules as Chris Feguson did.

My tactic for making the first money will be the Full Tilt 500,000 play money tournaments that user frob23 outlined in his thread as a better alternative to straight freerolls that have a big player field. The point is to grind 500,000 play money that gets you a buy-in to a freeroll with $40 in prize money and a low number of participants, which makes it more likely that you cash in. In frob23's example there were 18 places paid and an average number of players less than 50.

I will update my progress in this blog. Wish me luck

Chris Ferguson Bankroll Management Rules
  • He never buys into a cash game or a Sit & Go with more than 5 percent of his total bankroll (there is an exception for the lowest limits: he is allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less).
  • He doesn’t buy into a multi-table tournament for more than 2 percent of his total bankroll, but he’s allowed to buy into any multi-table tournament that costs $1.
  • If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of his total bankroll, he must leave the game when the blinds reach him.
Join the Challenge
You can join the challenge too! gamer4life27 is keeping track of bankrolls of all rakeback.com users that are taking the challenge in the Lets take the Chris Ferguson challenge! thread. And you can set your own target; it doesn't have to be $10,000. Most people seem to aim at $1,000.

Good luck Mollila! i know you can do it along with the rest of us. $10k is a pretty hefty goal, so be prepared for the grind! I am also going to try the 500k play chip tactic so be prepared to see me at the tables.

Thanks. And what do you know, we already were sitting down at the same play money table yesterday The play games were pretty wild compared to real money; lots of action.
