Experimental work
Posted 16th February 2008 at 01:43 AM by philjj
Having spent 9 months solely on NLHE (and I don't profess to be an expert and admit I'm still learning), I've recently been entering ALL types of freerolls on PS, Absolute and FullTilt. So far, I've qualified for $2000 entry tokens on PS in both Stud HL and Omaha HL, along with a couple of minor cashes on both AP and FT (pleased with these because they have very few payouts for such large fields) in HORSE and Omaha PL.
The biggest problems I've encountered so far is multitabling and remembering which game I'm playing at any given moment but it does make you concentrate more and therefore you are less tempted to play marginal starter hands.
I'm having a bit more difficulty with RAZZ but am managing to get quite deep in the tourneys so, whilst I don't expect to get rich playing freerolls, I am gaining no end of experience and it's making me a more rounded player.
Anyway, the purpose of the blog is to find out if anyone else does the same and which games do they prefer.
My preferences in order are,
NLHE
HORSE
OMAHA HL
STUD HL
HOLDEM PL
OMAHA
7 STUD
RAZZ
Am on the lookout for others I can have a go at but will continue bashing the freerolls.
Incidentally, I've funded all the sites I play on from f/r and, by being selective in the types of cash games (usually multi or single table SNGs), have managed to increase the br's without having to deposit.
Another tip for those just starting out, try and play a few play chip games and tourneys before going on to cash games, it seems to work for me and gets me in the right frame of mind to play.
