Bad beat jackpot? wait....what?

Posted 28th October 2008 at 11:31 PM by snipermcgees
So, I'm taking one of my first shots at $0.25/0.50 today, hoping that me running well will continue at this new level. Unfortunately, me running well pretty much went to crap. In one hand.

I lost over $1000. In one hand. Well, sort of....

I'm not sure if it would still have happened had I been sitting in, mainly because I don't know how the random number generator works at UB (or any other site for that matter), but the "what if" is going to put me on...

A more conservative bankroll management approach

Posted 24th October 2008 at 06:37 PM by snipermcgees
A concept that completely escaped me for the first little while of playing online poker, bankroll management has been a learning experience.
I've been rather fortunate after depositing small amounts on a couple of different sites and jumping immediately into stakes that could have erased my deposit had I lost a few buy-ins. This was mainly out of boredom and not wanting to grind $0.05/0.10 stakes for a couple of months to get to $0.10/0.25 (not that I was necessarily ready, but getting lucky...

Let’s make it a good time

Posted 28th September 2008 at 07:29 PM by snipermcgees
Reading the title of my first point it seems much more pessimistic than I intended. The idea was that I hope to be playing poker for years to come, or a “long time”. The experience is going to involve some downswings and breakeven stretches, which are not generally fun, but enduring poker is the goal. A key strategy for achieving this is to truly enjoy the game and continue to learn how to enjoy the game.

Many books (including the original Super System I think) touch upon the...

Aces in 25PLO

Posted 21st September 2008 at 09:44 PM by snipermcgees
So, I'm convinced AAxx is one of my most commonly misplayed hands in omaha. It feels like I spew chips like a monkey post-flop against any decent player.
I've experimented with different pre-flop plays while holding AAxx, but still feel really leaky post-flop. I'm trying to work on this.

In this hand, the villain is relatively unknown (first 30 hands or so) and effective stacks are ~240 BB. Villain has not entered many pots preflop, and displays a very aggro style of betting...

I'm here for a long time not a good time

Posted 21st September 2008 at 08:55 AM by snipermcgees
I've always wanted to keep a log of my games, maybe with some notes and key hands, to help keep me honest. Unfortunately, I never began keeping a poker journal, but I'm hoping this blog will serve a similar purpose. I'll try to keep it personal and honest, and I welcome opinions and comments from the community.
I am currently playing 25NL with a mix of 25PLO. I don't use pokertracker or HUD for some reason and I want to start soon. Until then, reads will be numberless.
