I would have played the hand the same way on the flop. I like to wait until the turn to make a raise. Usually by the the other player has to much invested with his overpair to get away from the hand and you can stack him. Unfortunately he caught his gin card and there was no way you could get away from it. I would have bet the turn, but still would have lost my entire stack just like you did.

Your hand was just a cooler. It really sucks but it happens sometimes. In that situation, you're better than 90% to win after the flop so just bad luck, don't worry about it and move on.

Here's a situation I was just involved in where after thinking about it in hindsight, I probably should have folded after the turn reraise instead of pushing. Set over set only happens less than 1% of the time though so it really is hard to get away from it sometimes.

The only way I can see you getting away from this hand is if you re-pop his preflop raise and of course he'll go all in.

That is why it is important to raise prior to the flop with a strong hand like JJ. If the bandit is going to re-pop you twice, then you have to know you're beat.

This is where you save money.

After the turn it's another story. Can you put him on KK? maybe. It seems like he knew you hit your set based on his river push and he maximized his hand to the fullest.

The way I see it, you misplayed the hand pre-flop.

After the flop when you hit your set it was just bad luck that you lost this hand.

But again if you had re-raised his raise pre-flop, and he comes over the top of you that's the time where you could've saved money.
