Hands per hour at your live games

What is the average hands per hour at your cash games?

I have a friend on our home games, he uses like a minute per turn. We should tell his about it since he doesn't know that, but he's quite new so that might be too rude.

Oh Man!!! That would drive me crazy!!! I hate slow players...there really is no reaosn unless you have to really think about whether to lay a good hand down....

I can't stand slow players either. However depends on who I am playing with. There are times when we play very low limit and people bring there husbands and wifes that tends to be pretty slow since lots of people are talking with each other. But most of the time when I play my normally weekly event things are pretty zippy. No one wants to be out to late so everyone is not trying to waste a lot of time. Now of course there is still a lot of talk like at any home game. But when its your turn its your turn and time to take care of business.

I couldn't handle that at all. Granted I was kind of slow in the beginning but I know for sure that I didn't take a minute each and every hand. That would make the game last forever. You might try to throw some tactful yet subtle hints to tell him to get a move on.

It kind of depends on who all I am playing with. On the rare moment that I do play live if there is a whole bunch of people there it will take a longer just because we talk entirely too much. It is just all about having a good time. If there is serious money on the table then I want them to hurry up.

I'm really not sure how many hands an hour are played at live games. I have never really thought of poker in a "hands per hour" kind of way. However, I'm sure that if it is a home game there are even less per hour than in a casino because of all the commeraderie that goes on at the game. Also, I think, in live casinos they have to keep up a certain momentum because of the rake they need to take in.

That would drive me crazy too. I know that when you watch on TV there is a time limit they have. You don't necessarily see it but I was at a couple of tapings of the WPT games with a friend of mine and she controls the timer. When it is getting close to the time she signals the announcer and at that point they have about 30 seconds left. Now on TV it's good to have people hanging on the edge but in home games... I don't think people hang on the edge so much as they get frustrated just like you. How about taking a timer with you next time you go to the game or have him over for a game and jokingly say okay like TV we are going to time everyone to 30 seconds a hand which should give you more time to think about what you want to do rather than say in order to stop long delays.

Ugh, someone playing that slow would drive me insane. It always seems to happen with really small bets too. I find myself always thinking, "come on, dude, it's not as if you're risking your whole stack! It's $5, either call or fold!"

I have never really thought about it in terms of hands per hour. Maybe slightly OT but I have noticed that in the tournaments I enter, about 30 people bust every hour or so, out of around 100 total players.

That is one of the important things ... I get so WILD when they do it SLOW ..

Yeah, that is pretty annoying unless there is a lot of money in the pot.. but my thoughts on it always is, comon, either your hand is good enough to call that bet, or it isnt.. if its not good enough to call it , just MUCK the hand already.. I mean, I don't kno about yall, but whever im in a hand, I will identify cards that are cards that will stop all action for me.. If I have a pair, and the board is potentially straightening on the flop and it looks like someone is chasing it, if one of those cards comes up, im done with the hand, period.. I dont even have to think about it really..

hehe, though I have to admit, I have at times played slow in online games because I've identified a person that LOATHES slow players so anytime im in a hand with them, I make a point to drag it out so he'll make as many mistakes as possible.. cruel, maybe, but effective..

That's a pretty good strategy, especially in an online game. Anything to throw them off their game. Playing slow in person usually isn't a good idea though, since that just gives them even more time to analyze your body language.

Some people are slow players because they are overthinking the game. I was talking about this with a friend of mine (who has the slow play syndrom) and he was saying that he goes over what the other players might have, how they've been betting, what has changed, etc. And not just once either.

Sometimes, I think he just does it to annoy the table, though.

Yeah, playing slow in person is deffinately not good..

I try to go over all of that stuff, but really, it shouldnt take you that long to analyze the situation.. if you want to know what the other players might have, bet the pot.. you'll get a pretty good idea. and you shouldnt have to go over it every time either..

i dont mind slow players unless they ask too many questions. Thats what annoys me. If you learn fast then maybe you should practice some more before going to a paying game.

I have no idea how many hands per hour are played when I play a live game. I know that when I play online that I will not play at a table that is getting under 120 hands per hour, otherwise it is just moving way too slow to keep my interest. In the casinos though I know that it moves a lot slower then that but it is just a totally different game than online.
