Im am a cash game plo player myself as well. Ive have regularly played stakes ranging form .1/.25 up to 3/6 online. My current game of choice is to 12 table .1/.25 I feel you played this hand incorrectly but it most likely ended up saving you money. When analyzing this hand it is easy to point the finger at him and say he got lucky (which he did, he should not have even call the 1 dollar preflop, nor should he have called the preflop raise, nor should he have called the flop bet in first position.) but you should look at this hand and recognize a serious leak in you game. You have to check that turn. It is a very strong starting hand so i like the pf raise. The flop has too many draws you should bet the full pot there with top set. That is just a small thing. So now that you have bet the flop and got two callers. When the club on the turn comes you have to check. Your set in no longer ahead. I am assuming the the guy in the small blind was putting you on aces and only aces. While i believe that is a mistake in this instance he was correct with his assumption. Ok so now you check. The button could check as well. If this happens you are going bust on the river. the way the hand played out you would want to get all you money in and you would have just been unlucky. Another possibility is that the button could have been floating behind you. Planning to bet if you check. If he bets the small blind may raise. didnt check raise you because he put you on aces but he may think the button made a higher flush and want to get the money in there. Although i still think he would have flat called. If the small blind check raises you have to fold. you are behind and are not getting the right price to draw to a full house. You can claim implied odds makes it correct and if you think you will get paid if the board pairs then it would be right but i dont think you get paid if the board pairs. if the small blind would have flat called you would have still lost about the same amount. Now back to the way the hand played out. When he check raises that river he has one of two things. the strait flush or a bluff. NOTHING ELSE. It would be crazy to check raise any hand short of the strait flush. He cant have AA or KK because the cards in you hand. The best he could have is AK now you are not calling his check raise if you cant beat or at least tie ak so there is no reason to check raise any hand ak or worse. Doing so would result in 0 profit or a loss. Now since we have determined that it is either a strait flush or a bluff. You can eliminate the option of reraising. by the same logic as before you get no value for it. he either folds or you loose money. I still think you have to flat call here, i think i would just based on the fact that I would be going crazy thinking about what he had for the next 6 months if you fold. It is very hard to even come up with a logical bluff here. It is alot easier to bluff from the button than from the small blind. You could float with air on the button with that flop but not from first position. Hands that would call that flop include qjT. 245, or club draws. I assume just the wraps would fold the turn. this leaves only a flush would want to call the turn. And when the board pairs a flush certainly would not bet or check raise, If anything with the way the hand played out you would prolly check call hoping to induce a bluff. or check fold putting you opponent on a set. no way would a flush reraise. All logic points to strait flush. But then again some people are crazy, the results could have been he had pocket 3s and then all that logic would have sounded pretty stupid for folding Aces full. |
