Default Playing QQ

I was at the casino recently playing $1/2 NLHE (with real people for a change) and was dealt QQ. I raise to $12 (strd raise for that table) and had one caller in back of me. Flop (of course) comes: AAx. I bet about $10 because I don't think this guy has an ace. He calls. Humm. The turn is (of course): K. The only two cards I don't want to see. Now I'm not sure... I check the turn and he bets $10. I think for a bit because he could very well have a king (or slow playing an ace) trying to build the pot. It could also have just been a probing bet to see what I had. I reluctantly fold. (Mostly because if he had an ace or king, I'd look like a jacka*s betting with just queens. 'Wut, yous didn't see the aces and king out there?') But I dont know if I played that right.

How would you play that hand? (This guy was loose, playing a lot of hands, 3 of 5 or so, and losing money).

More than likely, I would have folded. But I'm biased to QQ... I really hate that hand. If he had a K, that might have been a bet probing to see if you really did have an A... I would have considered pushing... but any more re-raise from him, and I would have folded if I believed he had an A or K... and I've found that a lot of "loose" players will call A anything to a standard raise... so I wouldn't be surprised if he were playing A 2 or something, and in that case, you are playing a two outter... so I would think the fold was the right play.

I would have checked raised the flop. Then you can see where he is. If he smooth calls he most likely has an ace, if he folds you know he doesnt. But either way it will probably be checked down the rest of the way, unless he has a monster, then he will bet turn and you could get away from the pot. Just my opinion. This is if I was playing a loose aggressive player only. If I was playing a tight player I would have played it exactly how you did!!

I dont have live experience nor experience at that level but your $10 flop bet into $24 + blinds? seems too weak. As played I'm done with the hand, he plays 60% of all hands so any A rag is in his range and quite probable here. Cut your losses, there will be far better situations in future.

I probably would have bet more on the flop, he could have seen this as weak. I don't know what to think about his bet on the turn, I probably would have called to see what he did on the river because his bet seems weak also. He could really have any PP there also and think he's good.

While I like the check raise option, As played I like this one better, and then you can still safely get away on the turn should some real aggression show up.

Although if you just lead out on the flop for about a pot sized bet, you will have to expect to call a small bet on the turn, and then probably fold the river.

I thought about check raise but decided I'm paying too much just to see where I am. I'm assuming the pot is $27, a decent bet from villain would be $20?, a decent raise would cost me $50-$55 meaning I have $62-$67 invested. Can I check the turn and fold here?. I still believe the flop bet should've been higher and there's also the option of the double-barrelled bet on the turn for the same price, as the aggressor.

BTW if you suggest check raising here, wow, its like the worst possible time to do a c/r....you realise if you check raise here, he's only ever going on with a set/trip As right? If he folds, you had him beat already.

If you're betting flop, do it for like $16, I'm calling the turn bet of $10, probably folding river to further aggression

Default Ahhhh the infamous QQ

These cards are either going to be LADIES to you, or BITC*ES.

You never really gave us alot of details about the hand like the X card in AAX or if there was 2 hearts on board ect.

In real life its easier to get a read on the person. You must have caught something off him.

Number one I always raise QQ more than the standard raises PREFLOP. Drive out all the LOOSE A,X - K,X type hands. Now I know only quality type hands have called. (HOPEFULLY).

Now the problem you have here is #1 A loose type player who called you. He could have literally anything. # 2 is the flop. An A hit let alone 2. We all know ppl like to play A's especially looser ones. Now a K on the turn is just OVERKILL here.
( !!! DANGER !!! WILL ROBINSON !!! DANGER !!! )

There is a case to be made that you got good odds to see a Riv and still show you have some sort of hand to him and hope to spike a Q or hope to be up against a lower pocket pair. But folding is also not to be blamed. You can put that $ in at a later time with a hand your more sure of. But on the same token A 10$ turn bet from him is very suspicious. Kind of begs to be called. Setup.

The best I can say is at least it didn't turn out like 2,4, 8 flop and you get it ALL in only to learn you got 2 outted by 88 or 44. Where it is alot harder to see the danger.

if i saw i k on the turn and my opponent make a big bet i would have raise.. however if he is a very loose player maybe calling is the best option

I was in a 451 person tournament the other day. I became the chip leader with 96k in chips, second place had 55k, and there were 20 people left. I went down to 20k in chips and last place which was now 15th by playing QQ twice over about 20 hands. I ran into KK once, and A6 another time (which happened to destroy me on the flop with not only one A, but another one to rub it in... thanks poker gods). I not only hate playing QQ, but I'm beginning to realize how badly I play this hand all the time. I can let go of JJ when I need to a lot easier than QQ, so anything JJ or lower or KK or AA, and I think I play a lot better. I just make a ton of mistakes with QQ.

I don't like check raising the flop. If you're trying to represent trips there's no reason to fast play a board with no draws.

I think you played the hand well, bet the flop and check/fold the turn.

Villain's small turn bet isn't necessarily weak. If he's got an ace he is betting small to get a call.

I would of called the $10 turn and seen the river, but I am a calling station...lol. I would then of checked the river and if he bet heavy fold or call another small bet.

Its a scary board and your probally beat...and might still be beat if a "q" hits the river, but this is more for future hands. Most people dont like this strategy, but I am not always in hands to win but to get a feel of how that person plays for future reference. A few $'s invested in this hand may turn out to be $$$$$ in a later hand.
