| Just wondering what a good profit rate is on a no limit cash table. I play quite a lot at $1/$2 blinds usually and tend to prefer about 4-6 handed games. I dont really track my results rigorously but poker pays for my social life while i study so i dont need a part time job anymore. All i know is that i am a winning player at this level, (cashed out ?1200 last week, yipee!) and want to know how much i should expect to be able to make at this level and how much i should be making or have in my bankroll before moving up? I have seen figures ranging from 1 or 2 big bets ie $4-$8 per hour all the way up to 10-15 big bets per hour ie $40-$60 per hour. I think the real figure is somewhere between these. $4-$8 seems pitifully low and i doubt it is possible to sustain $40-$60 per hour I want to have some sort of figure in mind to shoot for cos im going to try to play seriously 30 hours per week for a few months while im on easter and then summer break from uni to see if its worth pursuing. |

| I'd say that in fixed limit hold'em you'd need to get a winning rate of over 3 big bets per 100 hands in long run before you can say that you beat the limit. But I don't know about no-limit. Any suggestions?

| i'd say that in no-limit, good profit is 4-5 big bet per hour i say GOOD profit because on average profit is more around 2-3 big bets per hour and it is nice ! I play 1/2$ NL (2 to 4 table in the same time) and GOOD profit is about 50$ per table in 100 hands per table Average (and nice) profit will be more about 25$ For your bankroll: since you are student (no income per month) i suggest you to wait a big bankroll before moving up to the 2/4$ and more for exemple in limit 5/10$ (stack 200$) you need 2000/3000$ bankroll but in NL 5/10$ (stack 1000$) you need about 10 000/15 000$ bankroll minimum you can try with less ... but it is called GAMBLE because the up and down are so highbut once again, if you beat the limit you play, you can have an inferior bankroll and built it correctly in 5/10$ (more than in 2/4 and 3/6 from my point view) and sorry for the english , i'm french i'm doing my best ![]() |

| Id say in NL you should aim for around 10 BB an hour over the long run. A good session should see you win at least half a buy in if you play 1 table at a time. I play $25NL and I think that over the last 3 months I'm probably at a rate of $10 an hour 2 tabling. Ive heard that if you can make 10BB/100 hands at NL you can consider yourself to be a winning player. |

In fixed limit Hold'em over 100 bb downswings in one session will happen from time to time. Just recently I had one minus 150 bb session. Very rare, but possible. So in fixed limit I suggest at least 500*bb bankroll. For no-limit I have seen some bankroll suggestions of 20 buy-ins.

well, I've heard that good players beat the limit with 1BB/100... You can't compare NL with FL. An simple example: NL200 is FL 3/6 (three times of the Big Blind in NL) NL1000 is FL 15/30 In NL 5-10 PTBB is possible, highstakes often only 1 - 2 PTBB (PTBB = BB*2), but Highstakes with rakeback rocks ^^ Hmm... I'm using 25 Buyins for NL SH. |

because the up and down are so high
