Default What's your favorite Poker Gear???

Everyone has an image they like to portray at the tables...

What gear or lucky charms do you use while playing live??

I don't have or wear any of these things. About the only thing that counts as "gear" for me is my shirt. And I only half pay attention to that. If I am playing a live cash game, I usually wear a bright and very 'loud' Hawaiian type shirt. I like to pretend to myself that it gives other people the impression that I am there for fun and to play a bunch of hands... and hopefully gamble it up some. When I play tournaments live, I am almost always in a dress shirt. This is mostly coincidence because the tournaments happen after I work but by looking more formal, [I like to pretend] people assume I am a tighter player and will let me get away with more stealing than they would if I looked loose.

And sometimes, neither of these. I'll play in whatever I happen to wear when I find the game. I don't worry a whole lot about my physical image at the table. If anything, I like to have people see my as a 'random' person who just walked in off the street. Against people I play, most of the time I like them to assume I don't know what I am doing. I've had to instruct some close friends to not talk about how much poker I play when they get me into a game. If the host thinks they are a great player and can beat me... I want them to think I'm a rank sucker... ripe for the taking.

Oh, sometimes I have a baseball cap on... backwards... but this is to keep hair out of my face while I play. I'm not trying to present an image with it.

Default Gear...

Typically where I play, since I'm a female, I don't have to worry about what I wear because I'm already looked at as an easy win as soon as I sit down (I'm not stereotyping, it's just how people really do think where I play live - they've said so in loose conversation about women and poker! LOL).

So, I go ahead and throw on my Full Tilt hat and hoodie and turn up the earphones and boogie down to oldies while I play. Usually a nice mix of Boston, CCR, Eagles, Steve Miller, Johnny Cash and Jim Croce, Fleetwood Mac, and a few other goodies.

***By the way, "Time In a Bottle" is a good song to get you in a zone for a tournament***

I vary my play on occasion just as I do online from time to time so players can't really get a solid read on me, and there's been no denying how the table starts to slowly vanish after a couple of hours *so funny* lol

As far as gear goes, it hasn't really made much of a difference what I've worn, but since I earned my Full Tilt gear, I figured I might as well wear it.

I do find that low-cut cleve-buster shirts work wonders in tournaments too!

I usually bring my mp3 player with me and possibly a hoodie, if I'm wearing one (and I usually am, not that it's about poker..) I wear sunglasses in the summer and I might have them on in a poker table, but it's not a thing I need to do.

Allthough they are a great way to add 'tells' so that if someone is trying to get a right read on me, and I have a great hand, I can use the glasses to apply more nervous-looking activity. By wearing them, I usually gain nothing, but I get a worse image of the ppl I'm trying to get a read on myself.

I suppose they might help if I'm against a truly great read like Ivey or Negreanu.

My vote would be none of the above, as I just dress casually and never bring any gear or items with me. I tried taking pink tinted sunglasses with me to a second day of a wsop event, but felt too embarrassed actually putting them on.

Well it might be a good thing that you didn't wear them...a lot of casinos won't even allow rose colored lenses on their property due to card marking.

Hehe didn't know that. Is there some special card marking ink around that can be seen with red tinted glasses?

At least they let Greg Raymer wear his red tinted lizardman glasses at the WSOP main event he won. Would have been nice to see him booted out of the tournament

Yeah I suppose the pros get special treatment, but yes there is a clear residue ink that can be seen through red or pink tinted lenses. People will sometimes put the spray in their hair, so they can touch their head or run their fingers through their hair and then touch their cards, having marked them with the residue. Then they can see the mark on the cards using the tinted lenses.

There are other methods to card marking as well, but this is the most widely used and acknowledged method.
This is why most casinos now have those clear-red holders that dealers will put the cards into in between deals. So the dealer can ALSO see any marked cards and take action if any are found.

Here is an internet article about it...some pretty interesting info there...

Card marking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, here is a generic video of someone demonstrating marked cards using the luminous ink and a rose colored lense....

Default Sometimes, Sometimes Not

I prefer to use sunglasses, could not hurt. I just do not want anyone knowing what I am looking at.

I look freakish enough in street clothes that too much poker gear may cover something that may be to my advantage against another player.

As for luck charms, do not believe in them, but can and have used small personal decorations (I like my old plastic army man on top of my chips) or card protector.

Thanks,

I can't play without my favorite shades...I'll also usually listen to music if I'm not playing with my buddies.
