I just noticed that there's something called a thank- you post? What is that and how do you do it?

I'm just guessing, but I think if you appreciate someone's post, you can click the "Thanks!" button next to Quote and it will add it to the user's "thank-you posts" list.

Exactly. It is a forum hack designed to enable users to show their appreciation of uselful posts, without having to make a post with just "thank you" text that might be buried in the thread.
