FTP : Can't reconnect

Hi everyone,

Just a few moments ago, I was sitting at a cash game table and while I was still playing, I got disconnected.
While this tend to happen from time to time, I always manage to reconnect within a few seconds.
Now it's been over 30 minutes and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong...

I'm still connected to the internet, I can access websites and other stuff (obviously).
Yet, the client goes from "Connecting..." to "Trying Again..." and I'm still unable to reach FTP...

I've checked the server status and it's all green from their side.
I've checked my firewall, it still authorizes FTP to operate.
I've tried to access other poker sites and I can log on the iPoker network for example.

Any idea what's wrong here ?

No, but good luck getting it to work again. I've had bizarre things happen to me like this in the past, but usually it "magically" starts working again. The times it doesn't start working again on it's own, it usually starts working again after I reset my router, unless something is wrong with FTP.

Not really, I was breaking even on the past few sessions.
When I got disconnected, I had already lost half my buy-in...

I've tried restarting my router, no change.
I don't think something is wrong with FTP, unless the server status page isn't updated...

I'll be listening to your ideas...

I would try uninstalling FTP on your computer, and then reinstall it.

Actually, I got this response a few minutes after I last posted but have been busy with daily life so here it is :
Quote:
Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support.

I am sorry to hear that you're having difficulty connecting to the Full Tilt Poker servers. Based on the information in your email, here are some suggestions I feel may be helpful in resolving the problem:

1) First, please ensure that your computer's system clock reflects the current date and time; you'll need to double-click the clock on your taskbar, and then change your clock settings if necessary.

2) Next, try adjusting both your firewall and security program settings. (You may need to refer to a software manual or visit the manufacturer's website if you require help in doing this.)

- Open your firewall or security software
- Check to make sure that "Full Tilt Poker" is not blocked
- Make sure that "Port: 443" is not blocked either

For additional help on changing your Windows firewall, visit the Microsoft Support website at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673

3) Full Tilt Poker requires Internet access at all times. If your software has the capability to add programs to an "exceptions" or "allowable programs" type list, use this to ensure that access is granted to our program.

If you already have Full Tilt Poker added to the allowed lists, please skip over to my fourth suggestion.

- Your software may ask you to locate the Full Tilt Poker program to add. To find it, go to the folder where you installed Full Tilt Poker - this will most likely be: C:Program FilesFull Tilt PokerFullTiltPoker.exe

4) Should Full Tilt Poker already be on your firewall and security programs' "allowed" list, I'll need you to remove it from the list.

Once you have it removed, restart your computer and reopen the Full Tilt Poker software. This should cause your firewall to re-request a permission setting so you can set to "Allow".

Finally, if you have two firewalls running (i.e. Norton and the Windows built-in firewall), we recommend that you disable your Windows firewall. Having two firewalls enabled may interfere with each other, and decrease the level of your computer's security and performance.

Please note that Full Tilt Poker provides links to third-party websites and products as a courtesy to our players, and neither endorses nor assumes responsibility for the use of these products or websites, which are independent of Full Tilt Poker. Please be aware that any information or products mentioned should be used or referenced at your own risk and discretion.

I hope these suggestions help in getting you connected to our servers. If you have tried each of these steps and still cannot connect, please email us back so we can look into your issue further. You can find a list of our support departments at: http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/support.php

James

First of all, this means I was rather lucky to get a quick yet detailed response from FTP support.
Maybe that James was not so busy and decided it was worth his time.

Secondly, the hinted solutions all revolve around tweaking my firewall...which I don't understand. Why would something that works fine suddenly decides on its own accord to not work properly any more ?? I was online and I was playing when I got disconnected. I was still online when the software tried to reconnect. Which means my firewall suddenly decided FTP client couldn't be a trusted application any more ?? This puzzles me a lot...

Any ideas ?

I dealt with FTP earlier about connection issues. It took about 6 e-mails back and forth before they finally just refunded my buy-in and said they couldn't be held responsible for any more disconnections. When I disconnected, I could still connect to all my other poker sites etc... so my connection was okay... just something between me and FTP got all messed up. Not sure what happened, but meh.

Well, at least you got your buy-in refunded...
Nothing of the sort ever been proposed to me, even after a couple more emails...
