I'm pretty sure he didn't think you had the straight there. He only had a pair of 8's Ace high. He called your bet to see what you had. He wanted to see if his pair of 8's were good. Since he didn't raise, he thought he was beat, but he was making a deperation call in hopes that there were good. So I would say you got a little more than you should have out of him/her.

you did cripple him, leaving him with less than 2k chips, with the blinds at 300 you would probably want a stack well over 6k, he was officially crippled at that point, unless he got real lucky to come back.

but you know what they say in poker, a chip and a chair.... how did that guy place?

just by looking at the way it played out, that guy must have thought he had a read on mikey to call that large of a bet with middle pair, well either that or he was an idiot.

I vote idiot, A-8 into that board, with str8 and flush draw on it and an overcard. unless mickey was wild and splashing chips around every other hand, that guy was a moron, the pot was like what 4K and you bet 4.8K into the pot....the guy is getting less than 2 to 1 to call that! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much stuff out there that beats your 8-A, no way in hell I am committing 75% of my chip stack on a maybe, A-8 on that board is a MAYBE.
