Default Longest Streaks/ Longest Tilt?

What is your guys' longest streak and your longest tilt?

Lately I feel like I can't win a sit n go tournament no matter how well I play and I can't even consistently win hands that I am way ahead in at a cash game. Whereas about 6 months ago I won about $5000 through various tournaments and sit n go's and I felt like I just couldn't be stopped.

The last few months I just feel like no matter how well I play I'm going to get sucked out. Does anyone have any advice on how to get out of "long term tilt" I guess I would call it. I know I'm a decent profitable player but just lack the confidence I used to play with.

Well we've all been there...hell, I had one last about a month and a half. It's part of the game...sometimes I think Poker is almost as streaky as blackjack...one minute you're up the next you're down. Really there are only two options: (1) Wait it out, or (2) Fight through it. Sometimes I like to "table hop" if I'm playing cash tables. Sit and watch a table for a bit, if it looks like a bunch of goofy stuff going on, move on. It's hard to do that with SNGs though, because once you register, you're pretty much stuck with whomever. All I can say is hang in there and best of luck!

even taking a break to clear your head seems to be very helpful. If your playing with the feeling you are going to get outdrawn, you will play differently. As well as sticking to your bankroll criteria. I use sngos no bigger than 2% of your roll, multis 1%, and cash 2%, when it hits 4% leave. I know that is strict, but if you have a run of terrible cards you can work through it very easily.

I have heard that you are only supposed to bring 2% of your bankroll to a sit n go, but that just seems so hard to do. I feel like I don't get excited to play and don't focus when the money seems so small

I don't know but to me, 2% seems pretty small for sit and gos. It's not unreasonable but I've heard 5% and that made sense to me. I guess it depends on the number of players... but at 9-18 players I think 5% is fine. As well as 5% for NL cash games. I've also heard of 2% for the MTTs.

Of course, all of this assumes you're generally a winning player. Because winning players are the ones who need to prepare for these sorts of swings. I heard someone say, once, that if you're a losing player... you'll need an infinite bankroll to handle the swings.

as far as percentages go i would not recommend more than 3% of bankroll even for single table stuff. If you are on a bad sng run, before you hit the cash tables i would recommend you move down to single table if you generally play mtts, shorthanded if you usually play single table, and if you are comfortable playing heads up - go and play heads up for a while. you will be in the money a lot more often and you will remember how to win from there.

Its tough going thru a bad run in multitable tournaments and can become difficult to tell if you are playing well or not. However if i play 10 games heads up and lose more than 5 i know almost for certain i am playing badly and should take a break.

My worst run seems to be coming to an end. i usually play razz on ft. nightlyy razz tourney with usually about 100 players. march to september last year i won the tourney at least 1 every month. i just recently managed my first top 3 position since september! six months good - six months bad - can happen in mtts no problem i learn the hard way. In the meantime i had to find other ways to grind out a few dollars.

yeah I'm in the same boat. I had about a year of great play where I was very profitable every month and every week I played. The last 6 months I have been getting unlucky and haven't been profitable.

Sometimes it's really hard to know how much money you should play. The reason I started playing poker was for fun, not to make money. It's definitely much more fun to play with more money, because the game is more important to you, but if you go on a bad run of cards for a while you can lose your bankroll quickly.

Unfortunately, You can run bad for 6 months. If you are running bad after that then you might need to rethink your strategy and maybe think how you play hands. Sometimes when i run bad i tend to push hands like a-k and a-q a lot more preflop and on the flop. It is really hard to bluff internet players a lot. The curiosity will always kill the cat but sometimes the cat bites back.

You really think that running bad for 6 months is normal? that just doesn't seem right to me. I know the game has a lot of swings, but 6 months?!?

I agree, 6 months is a long drought. I guess it all depends on how frequently you play though also. I had a streak where I turned $100 in to $4000 in a few months, that was by far the most ridiculous streak I've ever had. Looking back I did manage my bankroll wrong. I was entering $7 and $10 tourneys when I first started which is a lot for a $100 bankroll, but luckily I ended up winning a $7 tourney that got me going.
