Default To Multi Table, or not to multi table?

What do you guys think about multi tabling? Do you think it's a smart thing to do and more profitable, or do you think you sacrifice the idea of "reading" a person when you play more than one table.

I have found that it is much better for me to play 4-6 tournaments at the same time, MTT and SnG's. This way I play much tighter and more patient. Once I get to the final table of the MTT's or last few people in the SnG's I only have 2 or 3 left at a time and can focus more on "reading" people.

What is your opinion on Multi Tabling? Do you think it's more or less profitable? How many tables do you play?

depends on the person. but if you would like to know for yourself, take a sample of when your playing 1 table vs. multitabling. in most cases you will have a higher ROI for 1 table but will have more overall profit from multitabling. in which case, you can either multitable or try and move up stakes and single table although that might cause your ROI to decrease.

I think if you have the mind frame for it, i.e. being able to focus on more than one thing at a time, then you should have no trouble multi-tabling. The trick is deciding what kind of multi-tabling fits you best. Like some people prefer to play in a tournament, and have a few cash games going on the side, while others like to play multiple cash games, or multiple tournaments.

Another thing you want to think about might be, do you want to stick to one game, or do you want to play one table NLHE, one table Omaha, etc. You have to find your comfort zone in order to make it work, and you have to be able to focus on everything going on without losing your concentration. If you are comfortable playing different styles of poker at the same time, then by all means give it a shot.

The most I will play at one time is 3 tables, because after reviewing my play using different numbers of tables and games, I found my comfort zone in 3. 3 tables is enough to keep my focus, as well as still be able to get pretty solid reads on players on each table. I usually will play all cash tables, but sometimes I will play a tourney or two with a cash game on the side....and if I pick a certain style of game I stick to that game for all 3 tables.

I never mix games like NLHE and Omaha or Razz because it prevents me from making simple errors such as misclicking on the wrong game, or miscalculating odds due to trying to keep up with different games. So profitability is possible while multi-tabling as long as you find your comfort zone, and don't try to exceed your limitations.

Personally I prefer to play multiple games in order to maximize the profit. Time is so valuable that one tourney or cash table doesnt have the earning potential to make it profitable. Now I have been known to play one tourney if its a private tourney and I will spend more time chatting with friends.
