Default Changes are on the way.........

It has been announced in the press today, that a number of the major Poker companies are effectively going to "give away" their US operations.

Who is going to buy?

Why would they buy?

We may get a few risk takers looking to take advantage of the current situation, and I guess the US government may have a difficult time chasing some of these Companies.

You would have to be pretty daring to buy up a well known gambling site. It appears that the U.S. government might really enforce this one, and a well known site is going to draw fire. It would make more sense for someone to just start up their own offshore company.

The has been some talk that s land based U.S. casino might buy one of these low prices internet gambling ventures to acquire know-how and get a foothold into the internet business. There is a possibility that this new law might be short lived. It is after all mostly a Republican election trick.

That might be the only way for the law to be repealed. If a real casino backs it, then their lobbyists will start working against the bill. As long as the US government is getting a cut of the taxes, they will probably just ignore it. It's really somewhat strange that they care so much about online gambling, because I'm pretty sure that your can still call Vegas casinos and bet on just about anything.

This law is going to be temporarily. I am all for it if the landbased casinos going to work against the bill still I don't like this bill became law in the first place. These landbased casinos should get with it and realized the potential of having online gambling sites.

What congressman (whether an election year or not) is going to be the one responsible for "passing a law that brings gambling to kids" (cause you know that's how it's going to be portrayed. Nope, I don't see this law being repealed.

As for a republican trick, you would be better off to say a political trick since they yeas crossed party lines.

Default It's frustrating

It's frustrating that online gambling has already been around for so long that it's become acceptable. Why didn't they do something in the beginning, instead of letting us all play for awhile and know what we'll miss?

The whole thing really stinks. Why is it that these politicians always seem to get all crazed about issues that don't need to be fixed and aren't really all that important in the grand scheme of things? Not to say that online gambling isn't important to those of us who partake , but if you compare this issue to, say, social security or education or health care, it kind of pales in comparison, wouldn't you say? They need to focus their efforts and attention where it needs to be and leave online gambling alone 'cuz it isn't hurting anyone who doesn't choose to take the risks of betting. About kids and gambling--this is an issue for the parents of the kids, not the government.

Well, elections are over in the U.S. and the Democrats threw out and now control the House and Senate.

This could have good affects on the ban on internet poker/banks. The law actually says that the Secretary of the Treasury, along with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, have 270 days from the passage of the bill to come up with ways to enforce it. So, that does not mean it will actually even take affect till much after that time.

Meanwhile, England has now "opened it's arms..." to internet sites and says it will create and highly regulate (and minimal tax according the news reports) gaming sites to create a safe and non government non hostile environment.

How long do you think the U.S. government will sit back and allow England and Europe to reap all the $$$$$$$. I predict they will back down and the dust will clear with U.S. residents once again being able to play without harrassment.

And with my opinion and $2 you can get a cup of coffee.

Yep, when the US sees its money going to other countries, I guarantee that they will find a way to get their cut. That's the standard routine for our government.

Very true! You made some very true statements. Our government don't like anything they can profit off of pass them by too often.
