When elections come, does online poker have effect on how you vote?

That's an interesting question. I do follow poker legislation and take an interest in news of this type, but I can't say I have ever evaluated a candidate based (in part, even) on his/her stance on these issues. I can't explain why, though. This might definitely be something to consider.

I've become sort of a pragmatic voter; I tend to not vote on issues that, even though I might be passionate about them, I don't think my candidate will be able to bring about a change. So I'll have to consider the poker issue in line with that way of thinking.

Not so much. There are so many other issues out there. I don't necessarily vote based on this, I just rant about it elsewhere.

I always send out the email letters that the Poker Players Alliance provides. I recently received a letter back from my local Congresswoman stating that she supports the PPA and is trying to rescind the online poker legislation. I was pretty surprised. So, I must say that for the next election, she will definitely get my vote.

I'm an active PPA member and have sent a letter to every politician in my area urging them to support the repeal of the UIGEA.

no, because poker is poker and i think their are MUCH more important things in life than poker, poker is just a fun good game, can be played for a lot of $$, but yeah it does not affect how i will vote, the world is much more important than poker.

For you Americans, playing poker is a civil liberty that your current overgrown government is trying to restrict. Wouldn't you want to fight for all your liberties?

Well, even though I enjoy my poker, I cant say that I would let it influence the way I vote. For me there are much more important factors in why I vote the way I do.

Yes, I agree, the government right now is way too big. There should be a very small government.

Has poker online affected my voting???? I guess not really, I have always tried to hear what each canidate or who ever it is has to say, take a long and hard look at how that lines up with the past they have, than compare them with who ever else they are running against, and than decide on who I (for myself, familly, and country) I think will do the best with what we have... and than support who and what every has been voted in to best of my ability, and if something is put in that I don't like or agree with, I start doing what I can to set that matter right for me, like writing my congressman, Governor, senator or local politican or delegete.... But I do believe I live in one of the greatest (USA) nationals in this world and yes I do know we (as American and country) have made some horrible mistakes and need to make them right, but there's isn't a country out there that hasn't had some kind of help from the USA and now they want to "throw stones" at us... ok, ok... don't get me started, lol... I just think "we're all in this world together" if some don't like what s going on than lets sit down and talk (not kill) about it and of course if you don't want to talk about it.... than please leave this world.... [NO, online poker probably won't have an effect on "my" voting...... PapaGary
PS... all thoughts and comments from the person above are his own and are not meant to be pointed at any one person or country. These are all he only doings. Thank you...

The question should read "do you want the government to eventually control every aspect of your life?" my answer is no. Ron Paul in 08.

I have never considered poker a reason to vote or not vote for a political candidate. However in Mass. there is talk of allowing casino's. I think it's about high damn time. However, they are trying to introduce legislation that would ban and criminlize internet gambling. Banning online gambling is bad enough but to actually suggest it be criminilized????? I have contacted my local politicians to 1 ask why the hypocrisy? 2 do they really want my vote along with 1000's of other poker players who vote? If so they seriously need to rethink laws that would exclude one medium of gambling to benefit another... Heck I like Foxwoods and don't mind the 50 min ride..So as far as local politics are concerned a candidates position on the issue is important to me.
