Default Euchre at Poker Nordica

I was on Poker Nordica today(first time in quite a while). I noticed they now have Euchre games there. Growing up in Michigan, you pretty much have to learn the game, and I love to play it. I will be spending some time there for sure. Anyone else enjoy the game?

I've never played it... although I think I have heard people say the name before. How do you play?

Yeah I used to love playing Euchre with friends and family but it's been years...

Its a trick taking game with 4 players. Each player is dealt 5 cards (only A,K,Q,J,10 and 9 are used). The 4 remaining cards are not dealt, but the top card is used to determine suit. The players starting to the left of the dealer has the option to call that suit as trump or pass. If no player calls up that card as trump, the players have the option of choosing the trump suit or passing again. Whoever sets the trump suit(and their partner) have to make at least 3 tricks to score. If they fail they are set or UKED. The jack of the trump suit is the most powerful card in the deck, followed by the "cross-jack" Example: Trump is clubs, jack of spades is th2nd most powerful card. Then the A, K,Q,10, and 9.

Is there no 2 in the deck?

In UK (or at least where I live) we also include a 2 which is known as "the Benny" or the ultimate trump card whilst the Jack of the trump suit is "the Right" and the other coloured Jack is known as "the Left". We play different rules?

yeah growing up in michigan you HAVE to learn to play this game. everyone i know, even in college, all play euchre. its a great fun game. there are different variants, as far as 3 handed (cut-throat) 4 handed, and even 2 handed. 4 handed is the standard.

as far as playing with a 2 in the deck, i have never heard of that. that is wrong. i have played euchre for 13 years and never has there been a 2 included. only 9 10 J Q K A.

oh and it isnt being "UKed"... its being euched. there is renig rule as well. which basically says you didnt follow suit when you could have. there is a rule for farmer's hands, partner's best, and going alone. the best hand to get would be if spades were trump Js Jc As Ks Qs.

And each side keeps score with two fives. I have also seen score kept with a 2, 3, and 5. (using 3 cards to keep score is a little bit harder, but fun)

DaGreenster...you admit to different variants of the game and then say having a 2 in the deck is wrong. There is a life outside of Michigan so you could just accept some play differing rules.

Euchre variations

Oh, it's not Euched, it's Euchred

Is eucher at all similar to pinnochle? It sounds like they use similar decks.
