Default Wasted Poker

Do you play poker under the influence of mind altering substances?

While this will not necessarily be the best advice given at rakeback, I am going to go for it anyhow. I believe everyone handles things differently, from eating breakfast to party habits.

I drink some and toke a great deal while playing and can stick to strict bankroll and playing style, even when the buzz is really rolling along. I do not wake up the next day in a haze and think, what did I do last night? and where is my bankroll?

Everyone handles the party life differently. Some are abhorrently against it while others (like myself) partake and believe in the saying, "To each their own". 99% of the alcohol I consume is in the form of beer (Molson, Fosters and Killians primarily). I am not against hard liquor, I just can not drink it for hours on end like I can beer and stay upright.

I can program software, do manual labor or play poker while I am altering what my brain receptors receive. While I believe I can handle this situation, not all can. I have played while wasted and can keep a consistant playing style. I do not get over brave with my soaked brain, I play my normal game. I party most all of the time when playing and the poker accounts are moving in the correct direction.

I have a friend (we will leave him unnamed) that has a problem with this scenero. He goes out with friends, parties down then comes home trashed and risks most or all of his wad in a single game or two. Or he buys into a higher than bankroll can absorb cash game and risks the entire bankroll eventually on one hand. Well when these hands do not pan out, another re-buy is in order. It hurts my ears to hear that word (rebuy) coming from his mouth every other week.

I enjoy playing poker and partying. To me they go hand and hand. I know I will get flak about playing with a lack of focus and alertness, but I will argue that is how I operate. I do keep focus and alertness even when hedonism is in full swing.

Define yourself, can you play wasted or is it a pipe (glass of course) dream?

Thanks

I think everyone is different, but we play best in our comfort zone. This gives us the best mind set, whether it's alcohol, a lil pot (or alot in my case...lol) listening to music, etc.
I play best when I've got bud, plain and simple. I focus better and don't steam (tilt) when high.
This is truly what makes online poker so nice, we can set our on atmosphere when we play.

Is it 4:20 yet?

BTW, Glass of course! taste better any way

Now I might enjoy one (1) margarita during the middle of a MTT if I notice that I am becoming overly aggressive, but as for other stuff no.

I do however listen to music while I play, almost religiously Music is a way of life for me

I can play with a little buzz, but I don't think I would even attempt to play if I were hammered.

If coffee counts as mind-altering, then I suppose I do, but otherwise no LOL

Default I agree

Some ppl can and some ppl can't. I don't think I could play if I hadn't smoked a nice big fatty. Even at the casino I would take a meal break after awhile head out to the car roll one up. Couple beers sure why not, as long as you don't get hammered and play. I also want to add as long as your not an idiot to other players also though.
poker (gambling) itself is a vice.

Default Altered state

I generally always toke a bit when I'm playing, I'm quite sure that i play better when i do. That being said, it's just something that works for me. I simply will not play online if ive had more than 1 drink, and i cant even listen to music or have backround noise while playing, it is annoying to me and becomes a distraction, especially the wife deciding that while I'm 6 tabling and involved in 3 different biig hands would be a good time for a conversation!

Never. Well, never drunk at least. I might sometimes drink a beer or two, but I never play drunk. It's not good for my game, simply because I put too much faith on draws and overall play too recklessly. Other than alcohol, I don't touch any other shit for two reasons, 1. it's never been my thing, and 2. if I would ever get caught using any sort of illegal drugs, I'd get fired in an instant. My job is the sort where it's a huge no no. Same goes for all other illegal stuff.

Thanks for all for the responses so far. As Krahsami stated, 'Poker itself is a vice'. It is easy to forget that poker and gambling are taboo subjects for many while we all take them as another piece of the whole. I also agree to not play totally hammered, but a cool buzz is just fine.

Boilermaker, the answer to your question is, "yes", the clock in my cardroom is stuck at 4:20, so it is always time.

Later,
