There's a bill that's been making its way through the New Jersey State Senate that aims to legalize online poker--but only for casinos that already have brick & mortar operations in Atlantic City. As in, PokerStars and FTP would be banned!
I wrote a news article summing up the story, which you can read here.
It's an interesting idea, and its unclear whether or not it would be good for poker players. On one hand, Stars, FTP, and the other well-known online sites would be greatly missed. On the other hand, a market of state-supported networks could bring tons of new money (fish!) into the games. And of course, there's potential for some pretty awesome promotions in a b&m/online cardroom combo.
What do you think; would you guys like to see this bill passed or not? I'd almost say yes just because I'm so curious about what will happen afterwards, but then again I don't live in NJ so none of the risks would pass to me.
