I am still learning, I can't really do more than one table at once and win.
What is the most tables that you have managed to hold at once (and not lose your shirt)?

I play mostly short handed or full limit hold'em, and the comfortable maximum for me is three tables. Rarely four.
A lot of times I will have four tables going at once. But I always have two helps me to not play crap hands since I am seeing more.
I'm a monogomous player - just one at a time will do me just fine!
Besides, how do you really get to know the table if you are playing around?
Honestly I have a 19 hand rule and I only play those 19 hands. So the more hands I see the better I do over time. And playing low limits it really does not pay as well to learn who you are play with since the odds of running into them again are slim. Higher limits you run into the same people a lot, so knowing there weakness comes in to play a lot more.
But I got better things to do than try and learn a player I might never see again.. If I do run into someone a few times I start watching them a little closer.
I've always been a people watcher so I tend to be a quick study. And it doesn't take that much for me to figure out their body language.
Thanks for the answers guys!
So 3 and 4 tables seems like a comfortable number once one gets a good feel for the game.
Liz, I am not sure I understand the 19 hand rule? You mean, you only play certain 19 hands, rest you just pass/fold?
Yes I agree that if you want to play comfortably the most you should try to handle are 4 games at a time. It also depends on the sites you are playing them at. If you are at two different sites they can sometimes fight against each other. For instance I find that AP and Titan have a difference of opinion on the same computer. I fortunately have two computers hooked up and when I have games on these two sites I put them on separate computers.
If I can get into at least 3 games I am comfortable with that. Less than that I have to have something else going for me like solitaire or another type of game to keep me from getting bored with the action. Because a lot of players take so long in making their play or else i have folded pre-flop I find it hard to just sit there. If I try more than 3 like say 4-5 games I find they pop too fast to make proper plays and also sometimes you hit the wrong button on the game because you were clicking on one when the other popped up.

I have been been playing six full no limit tables at the same time last two weeks and found it kinda fun. Action isn't too fast and you even get to play sometimes compared to playing two tables which is extremely boring :P
I did see you playing 9 full NL tables at the same time last week (and that was with one monitor)Originally Posted by pinnie
That looked mad though. Fixed I can handle max 5 tables so that I'm still enjoying the game, but NL ... damn dude, 9 tables NL is crazy imo!

I don't get the whole multi table thing. What are the benefits? I would think that it would only be negatives to playing lots of tables at once.
If you are a winning player, the more hands per hour you can crank in, the more profit you make. In theory. This of course depends on your perception skills and ability to play multiple tables. Most experienced players are able to handle 2-3 tables fine.Originally Posted by kelkat
wow.. you guys are hardcoreI have played two tables on occasion, but usually I'm happy with just 1.. 9 tables would absolutely kill me.. I like making money, but I also like just playing poker because its fun, and that would ruin it for me.. not ot mention that would be a large sum of money depending on what limit you were playing...
But tournaments are only one table at a time, so what's the purpose. Does playing multi tables increase your abilities or just your profits?
Multi tabling tournaments increases mostly profit but as always playing lots of hands makes you better in the long run too.Originally Posted by kelkat

6-8 six-max no limit tables is comfortable for me. I'll have to get another moniter if I want to play more.
statistically speaking, wouldn't your odds of profit be the same no matter how many tables you played?
Thats partially true kel, but essentially what you're doing when you play multiple tables is compressing time... over X amount of time, you should statistically expext Y dollars playing at N tables, so youve decreased the time to play to win Y dollars by 10
Okay, I'll give you that - almost anyway. Doesn't playing multiple tables actually decrease your awareness of the tables and therefore decreasing your odds of winning in the long run?
