WPT or WSOP

Which of these two tournaments do you feel you would have a better chance of winning? Do you feel you could make the final table at either of these and if so what kind of strategy would you use to ensure it.

As has been shown by last few years, skilled "amateurs" have almost as good a chance of winning WSOP main event as professionals. There are just too many entries (especially from satelittes). I don't mean that it is a bad thing, not at all, it is great for the little guys like us to feel we have a shot at the big prize.

WPT format rewards more skilled players.

Very interesting question. I'm not sure which one is the better one to enter anymore. It used to be that the prestige came from entering the WSOP but now with the WPT many more "amateur" players are hitting the limelight.

I truly feel though that I would prefer to enter the WSOP Main Event if I could win my way there because $10,000.00 is a lot of money to risk for a gold bracelet. However, winning that gold bracelet its a "MAJOR" feat and I would love to do that.

Some of the "amatuers" are serious poker players that haven't hit the money yet. I like both tournaments, but don't thing I could or would ever enter either on my own buck.

I'm goign to have to say WPT, merely because of the fact that there are 8000 some odd people in the WSOP even, and thats an enormous field.. not to mention that its going to take like 2 weeks of solid pokeer play to get to the final table.. I don't know about ya'll, but I find 8 hours of straight, live poker to be exhausting, much less 2 entire weeks of it..

I agree---being 63 yrs old and having a body that shows 42yrs living in Vegas I could never consider 2 days straight must less 2 weeks.

I hadn't thought about the amount of time involved in these tournaments. On TV its just two hours . No wonder so few "amatuers" get very far. How many people can afford to pack up for two weeks and disappear?

well the people we see on tv did take their chances out of town and play for about 2 weeks... some maybe lucky if the WPT plays on their hometown and they just happened to join...

I figure hometown folks are the only amatures that can afford to play. The rest of us just have to watch from a distance - unless there is online qualifing.

Good question, but you certainly can't "ensure" a final-table spot. If you could, we would all be rich.

Just making the first day or two of the final event is an accomplishment - and certainly doable if you want to give up some expected value, but you can't fold your way into the money.
