Omaha suckout question

Pot Limit Omaha 25c/50c blinds. I flop the nut flush so bet the pot. Retard calls. I bet the pot again, retard calls. I bet the pot again, and uh oh, the board pairs 8s. I have $10 left in front of me and there is about 30 to 40 dollars in the pot. I hope and pray he has been calling me down with second best flush. I think for a second then whack in my last $10. The fucking moron has two 10s and two 5s in his hand; he had a set on the flop so all my money is gone.

What would you have done? Say there had been $200 in the pot and I had the same amount in my hand?

Is there such thing as a 'suckout' hand in Omaha? I've been playing live omaha for at least 8 years now. I am by far not a pro but I do know that the nut hand on the flop almost NEVER wins the pot. Especially a flush. I have no idea about percentages, but I do know the river card makes the winning hand quite often in omaha. Then add online players? Unless you are betting large, if they have anything, they call. Good Luck. PS. Merry Xmas

Indeed it is very dangerous when you flop the nuts flush and your opponent flop trips, so I think after he called you on the flop, you should have check on the turn and see what he do because he he had the second flush, he would have reraised not just calling.

The point is if he has the second flush I'm almost certainly going to get paid.

If he has two pair he is a big underdog and might fold.

He is still an underdog with the set; I would certainly fold second set here and depending on the circumstances top set. It really gets me though when these retards suck out, not just like that but they will raise and re-raise and call with total garbage. Do you know how much it hurts when you flop a set of kings and get outdrawn by some wanker who has called a raise and a re-raise with 9-8-4-deuce?

dunno part of Omaha why i love it such a rush..I mean if it was holdem then thats one thing..but omaha is all bout chasing. A lot of ppl chase flsuh/str8's in omaha i mean it happens, But u did play it well just gotta keep ur head up and try again & gl at the felt.

Omaha is about draws and redraws. If you have no draw to improve your hand and you find someone smooth calling you at flop/turn, you shouldn't be betting pot.

As played, I would have instantly checked the river but in the end I call his bet most of the time.

these hands are very standard in omaha. if you can't handle the variance, you're gonna go on life tilt if you continue to play plo.

In Omaha aything can happen.
a Nut flush at the flop says nothing.
If the guy called your pot bet he is aiming for something
Most probably full house It is common in Omaha.
He took his chance and it paid off

in omaha it always seems to me that if by the river you no longer have the best hand possible it is time to slow down and see if you can get away with checking out, because way too much of the time you have been outdrawn (yes, usually by some pokertard (huh, have i coined a new slang term for the poker addicted?) ) who should not be chasing but they always do, don't they?
and maybe its just me, but does it seem to anyone else that SUCKOUTS GALORE seem to happen during internet play a whole lot more than at a brickandmortar casinos?

I play Omaha almost exclusivly and I see that alot but you can also make money and cash in on the "play evey hand donks" The hand that I dont get is on a no limit HL table is the player that pushes all in pre flop.. I have played a ton and have never seen a hand in Omaha that warrents that move and even more amazing is they even hit sometimes There is my 2 cents on the question.. Good Luck

I play mostly H/L and I agree that suckouts happen a lot, but I think to a large extent that is the nature of Omaha. Unless you flop the stone cold nuts like quads or aces full of Kings you are likely to be against some draws that can beat you.

The players are too loose preflop, don't understand hand selection and will take 2-pr to the river hoping to make the boat. I tend not to get overly agressive until the turn with one card to go. Even the best high low hand AA23 ds only scoops the pot about 30% of the time. If you are against 3 callers you have 18 2 card combos against you, some will flop big draws and stick it out, they dont understand pot odds or what possible hands you have.

The "get it all in preflop" play is standard for short stackers who hold AAxx.

Yes it's a gamble but people who short stack PLO are basically gambling for a way to double their stack/roll quickly.

I've thought about this at times and always wondered why people like this as you could have the nut nut NUT hi and end up chopping a pot which must be extremely frustrating.

I know it's more complex but I'm not sure how it relates to the OP's suckout...it would have happened in a Hi/Lo game also.

HI/Lo is a great game if you have a full table and have the NUT high because a few people could have the low and keep betting if not re-raising, thus make a bigger payout for you. Its even better when you have both high and lo hands.

I love Omaha , hilo is my fave but hi too, the thing is you never really have the nuts until the river in Omaha unless you have a royal flush lol , any time I see a paired board I'm pretty sure someone was chasing a set so I know if I make a bet there I'm only going to get called if I'm beat .
I don't think of omaha as a chasing game it's a drawing game to me and a set is a good draw unless someone bets me out of the pot , 2 pair is a crappy draw to me and I just don't understand people who chase that to the river though .

The reason I like Omaha hilo so much is you can build great pots with all the chasers so even if you do split you can still make a sweet pot, also you can play the lo and freeroll for the high so to speak ,also having a sweet hi hand when you know they are all chasing a lo can also bring a very sweet pot , theres no better feeling than scooping though lol,theres lots of ways to make a lot of money in hilo so it can mean less variance because you usually get something back and when you do win a pot it's usually a big one.

All in pre flop is stupidity at its finest in ohilo no matter what the circumstances, if you have the nut high between the turn and river enjoy it while it lasts because no matter what you bet there WILL be a donk chasing and they WILL suck out on you (not every time, but A LOT more than statistics would say) and if you dont have the nut high after the river you better hope you have a low......... those are my 2 cents.

I love omaha, but this is the very reason that I dont play pot limit OMAHA online. There's not much that you can do. Just check the river. Limit omaha is a lil different and I find that its different when playing a live game. But pot limit OMAHA online is a terrible fish game. Especially the lower limits.....thats my opinion anyway.
