    Default Phil Ivey Uncovered...

After watching Phil Ivey play time and time again, I've finally uncovered a serious tell of his...

If you watch him play a lot, you will find that he's always chewing gum...

I had some friends over last night watching the WPT. Phil was playing...

I told them what I had noticed about him, and as they all watched, they began to break out in waves of laughter every time my theory was proven!

What is this tell, you ask?

    Well........

As I said, Phil Ivey is always chewing gum when he plays. I have noticed, that when he has a strong hand pre-flop, he chews verrrrrrrry slowly, sometimes stopping completely. Same goes when he hits that hand. But if he misses, or doesn't like his hand, he chews his gum faster, or at a more normal pace.

At first when I told my friends this, they were like "yeah, right..."

BUT....as we sat and watched Phil play, it became more apparent that I wasn't losing my mind!

Example: Phil got dealt pocket 10s. His gum chewing slowed almost to a stop. As he made his bet and was called, he still barely chewed his gum at all. The flop hit his 10s, giving him a set. Again, he barely flinched. The end result was that he won the hand, and when he did, he began chewing his gum normally again.

Later on, Phil is dealt 86 suited. His gum chewing remained at a normal pace (signifying he wasn't that happy with his hand pre-flop). The flop hit his 8, but a player holding A2 hit his 2 on the flop also, and made a massive raise into Phil. After some long thought and continued gum chewing, he stopped chewing his gum and was very still....then he re-raised the other player....the end result was Phil won again, and again, when the hand was over, he continued chewing his gum normally. LOL

My friends got so good at reading his "gum chewing tells" that even they could tell when he was going to fold before he did it, just by the way he was chewing his gum.

I know this sounds crazy, but I just wanted to share this so the next time you see him playing, watch for this......and see if you notice the same patterns.
I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

Well as far as I know he only plays on Full Tilt, so I don't have to worry about playing him online because I can't stand that site anymore

As for playing him in real life, hopefully in the next few years I'll have a go at the WSOP...my goal is to go before my 35th birthday...I'm 27 now. So, I guess only time will tell...

lol odds of beign at the same table in the wsop are pretty slim. plus ud be at a full table and would be hard pressed to only play hands against him. youd be better off challenging him to a HU cash game for 1 BILLION DOLLARS,

Be your opinion as it may, nothing is fact until it is proven. Being realistic would mean understanding that anything is possible, although perhaps difficult, it is still possible. Being pessimistic is viewing something as impossible without first trying. You, sir, appear to be pessimistic. HOWEVER, I will not pass that judgement upon you because I do not know you.....and I would appreciate the same courtesy in return.

I find it offensive that you would share such information with the world. There is no honor in discussing a person's tells in a public forum such as this! I guess that's poker these day's I'm sure you probably sit at tables and say the same stuff about the people playing you. In the old days that would get you whacked!!!!

Let me guess, you were alive in the old days to know this? Listen hun, it's fine that your opinion is your opinion...but don't assume you know me just from one post, and certainly don't pass judgment on me. When I play live I observe, not chat. Forums are for chatting. So no, I don't discuss people's tells at the table, I simply manipulate them and take advantage of them for my own benefit.

As for you being offended because I'm talking about a pro...all I can say is wow...sensitive much? I mean seriously the pros rag on each other's tells all the time, or do you not watch Poker After Dark much? Thicken your skin...as it was so well put in another recent post, poker is NOT a nice game...there is no room for getting offended...

Amen, if you get offended playing poker, quit now, go back to the slot machines and let them take your money and they will be nice about it!

    Default Bring on Iveyis

Regardless of whether he is chewing slowly or fastly, bring him or any other player running dead to my table please. Since he has not been running so incredible he and not longer hitting the right hand at the right time or catching good bluff opps , he sure doesnt look so good. Now ...thats poker. And the legend continues.

I've always thought that phil ivey was the best poker player in the world because he was unreadable but maybe you found something about him. If you're lucky enough to play against phil ivey and he isn't chewing some gun just offer him a piece
