Default How would you play Pocket Aces- Final 2 in cash tourney ??

I was heads up recently in a $10 000 tourney $5 000 to winner $2 000 for 2nd.He didn't want to split cause he had more chips about 3 to 1(which is fair enough)
Anyway i got 9-4off, he just called, the flop came

    9-J-4
he decided to bet the minimum,I've got 2 pair raise all in ,he calls turns over AA
    turn/river are K-4

few hands later we have about the same stack now I get pocket Kings, this time he goes all in,WTF i have to call ,cards turn he's got AA again

this time he was out of his misery very quickly the flop was K-K-3. Quads unbelievable.
the $5 000 is mine/ours (split it with 2 mates)

did he play the Aces right ????
how should he have played them ???

Oooh, the ammount of times rockets loses...

I think the only way to play them is through a big raise, especially if there are a lot of people still in play. The big raise should remove the lucky draw players leaving only those with pocket pairs or high cards.

I reckon the other players are easier to read that way. Because you just limped in with 9-4 he shot himself in the foot. If he had raised there would be little chance you would call with such a poor hand right?

There's something else here too. I think sometimes in poker you are just destined to win/lose. The KK hand being a classic example of it just really being your night. Fabulous win by the way - I bet he was spitting feathers for hours!

In heads up I would just use the same kind of raise I had been using most frequently so far, hoping to get a reraise.

I think the guy played his AA like it's supposed to be played in the latter situation. And so did u with your KK. Its just a matter of wether u hit your K (or even both like u did) or the other player does.

Both hands are strong in any HU situation and should be protected by betting, raising and even re-raising if a chance is given.

The first was a bit strange, as a moderate raise might have u chucking your cards in the deck and the opponent gets the blinds instead of losing a lot more.

I agree heads-up AA is typically a god-send, and should be played strong with bets/raises/re-raises. As far as the other guy is concerned, I agree with another post...it just wasn't his time to shine...congrats on the win!
I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

    Default Raise

The first hand he slow played the aces against 9-4 and paid for it. It is heads up, so we can not say for sure you would have folded to a 3 times BB raise. But if he did raise preflop at least he would have some pressure for you to fold and not hit the garbage cards two pair and beat him. Once the flop came you were both rightfully shoving chips into the pot.

As for the KK vs AA, bad timing for you, that is until that wonderful flop, then it was bad timing for him/her. I do not know too many players, if any who would fold KK heads up against any raise.

Congrats on the win, you had a suckout at the end, but played it just fine. You got into a position of heads up where anything goes and came out on top.

    Default Making up stories

Just curious why you would make such things up. I knew i was seeing something fishy when you described it as a 'cash tourney" and the payout being 5k for first and 2k for second. Then you offered to chop as a 3 to 1 dog, how gracious of you.
All of these added up to a made up story to me, that's what poker players do after all, detect lies. So, i decided to look you up. 5k win huh, your biggest cash to date is $44. your roi in mtt's is -27%. your roi in sng's is -11% (at the $2 level) and you went busto in about two weeks and havent played in a month. nice "5k win" win tho
If you really want help with your game, you should be honest with yourself first. I play professionally, and find myself making mistakes all the time. It's the ones that play "perfect" ( just ask them) that we make our money off of, along with the occasional deposit and blow donkeys that are harder and harder to come by thanks to our wonderful new legislation.
Be honest with yourself, work on your game, and your fantasy 5k win will come true someday i promise.

    Hey M**R** FU
its a LIVE cash tourney played over 13 weeks, the first 12 you get points where the top 2 from each venue(about 50) make the grand final. Then it all starts again.
Why in the f*** would i waste my time to make up a story(i'm sure i could make up a better one) & if you read it properly i didn't offer to chop it ,i said there was no chop because he had me by 3 to 1.
One more thing i don't give a f*** if you believe it or not ,but what kind of m**r** are you, doesn't believe the story, but goes out of its way to look at my stats.
I have never ever claimed to be a big pro poker player.I play $2 to $6 MTT's or sit"n"go's online & have played few couple of $26, guarantee $ MTT's,even in live games i play the multi week tourney (which is free to play) & a few $10/$20 MTT live tourneys.

if you cant deptermine if he played the aces right, we got a SERIOUS problem, and you better read some books, you NEVER push with AA especially HU, what are the odds he will have a hand good enough to call, MAYBE he will call with KK anything else NO, so u will not make money by pushing everytime

CLEARLY, he made the wrong play...

about your play, im not sure, i probably would have called, but i didnt know his image, so its hard to tell, if i thought he might push with AK or a lower pocket pair, i woulda called, other wise no

Shoving with AA is bad, just go by the book and raise...

And heads-up, you'd have to hold a gun to my head to get me to fold KK preflop, hell I'm never folding them in 6max cash games, maybe full ring against a 4bet from an ubernit

I just thought it was for play money

I would play aces the same as always, a good bet followed by good play, slowplaying aces is still dumb in any situation, even heads up.
