Default 44 OOP, short stack decent read, what do you do?

I was kinda short, also at the time the Villain (BTN) was fairly Tight aggressive, seemed to play good hands and fold when he needs to. His final poker tracker #s were 16/9/3 over 124 hands, but this particular hand was around the 85 hand mark.

    BB: 2,440
    UTG: 4,000
    Hero (UTG+1): 2,355

    MP1: 2,030
    MP2: 3,320
    CO: 705
    BTN: 2,460
    SB: 3,790

    Pre-Flop: (150) 4 4 dealt to Hero (UTG+1)
UTG folds, Hero calls 100, 4 folds, BTN raises to 300, 2 folds, Hero calls 200

    Flop: (750) 2 9 7 (2 Players)
    Hero checks, BTN bets 400

I just dont know, I have an idea of what I should do next time, but I will open it up for discussion here, what would you do?

I hate myself for limping this, and as played I have to fold to his raise PREFLOP

Ideally should be folding this from early position IMO

Depends you wanna put your whole tourny life on the hope he has AK or AQ (not suited) and after he bets 400 on the flop you push all in. If he has AK then he should fold it... but yeah. I may have folded to the raise preflop.
He could have A9 suited maybe. anything with an Ace is pretty good when its folded around to you on the button.
In early pos. I would have folded the 44... or raised it up with the 44. Depending out how tight the table was I would have raised.

Also to add... you had 23x the BB... so your weren't short stacked. Maybe should have folded to the raise.
Limp was probably good. hope to see a cheap flop, hit a set. take his money. Hmmm

Yeah I hate to jump in with little pairs like that because more often than not, against a player like the one you mentioned, you're really putting yourself in an awkward and difficult position if you don't hit on the flop. Even if the aggressor doesn't hit the flop, the board has you beat (technically) so he can easily pass off a good sized continuation bet, forcing you to make some really tough decisions should you choose to stay in the hand. Honeslty, I'd have avoided this hand from the start.
I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

Folding preflop is the way to go but as played i would maybe see a turn and if its a brick lead out. But thats probably overly aggresissve and nothing more irrtitating than going out of a tourney in a situation like this. But i would say that if this guy has been TAG this flop would miss his hand more often than hit it but your position is bad, stack size means any raise commits you really. I dont think i make any sense.

A bad position to play 4's with the stack size you had. It almost puts you in a 'go big or go home' situation.I would have folded pre-flop.

Default Small Pairs mean Big Decisions

You tried to limp to the flop from early position with a little pair. I would rather see a fold or a raise here at this blind level. If you bet 300 maybe the other raise does not even come (A-J or similiar) and you take down the pot right there. You said the read on this player was tight. He was on the button, it could be position raise, but you have to trust your reads and put this player on a hand if they have shown a tendency to fold lessor hands. With 44 limp call and a later raise from a tight player, it would be time to muck the fours.
