    Default Funny Book Error...

Okay so I was reading through a poker book earlier and I found a funny error that made me wonder.....was this person really thinking when they wrote this?

Here is the comment that made me laugh:

"If you are holding an A-K and the flop is A-A-K, you know that there is absolutely nothing that can hit that board to hurt your hand. You cannot be beat - and, oh, what a wonderful feeling!"

I laughed because the statements that "nothing can hit the board to hurt your hand " and "You cannot be beat" is simply false, false, false.

The author did not consider the possibility of an opponent holding something like JJ, and the turn and river both come off Jacks, then you are going to be beat by four of a kind. LOL

Anyway, although it's a rare and slim chance, it's still a very real possibility for Aces full to get beat, especially when newer players are involved because they sometimes simply cannot fold any pocket pair no matter how much it costs them to stay in, and those would be the ones to luck out with the four of a kind.

I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

And don't forget the possibility of a Royal Flush. Ad-Ah-Kd would present that possibility to someone holding QJd, Q-10d, J-10d or just one of those three cards (if we consider runner-runner).

But, AK is certainly sure to be the best hand at the moment and is very unlikely to be drawn out on.
I get no respect. . . when I move all-in, people from other tables call.

Agreed, but the only thing I was laughing about is that the book was insinuating that it is the mother of all hands, and that there was absolutely NO way for it to be beat, which is simply not the case.

"Everything Online Poker" was the title...I had bought it for Carrie since she's still not quite comfortable with the online thing, and she needs to learn the aspects of the different games, not just hold-em. But I was bored before work and decided to flip through the pages when I came across that statement, and I laughed so hard I just had to share it

The rest of the book seems to be pretty accurate, so it hasn't thrown me from letting Carrie read it. Although I am on the lookout for Phil Gordon's boxed set...that is something we both can benefit from. I've thumbed through Harrington and Sklansky's books when at a friend's house who owns them, but to me they read a lot like stereo instructions, and I lost interest fairly quickly LOL. Perhaps when I have more time on my hands to read and absorb the information from their books, I'll get more enjoyment from it. It's just the day I was browsing through them I was on a tight schedule and the first few things I read definitely showed I'd need much more time than I had.
