Image Backfire?

Here's my question:

To the tight players: Do you ever feel like your image backfires on you? What I mean by that is, do you think some players will intentionally play trash hands against you with the sole intent of cracking whatever hand you have, just because they have put you on a precise range of hands?

I wonder this because I see it happen so many times, and I wonder if these people are not donks, but rather the tight player is just being too predictable? Such as c-betting on a small flop after raising preflop....a good reader would probably assume that the tight player did not hit the flop, and is only c-betting, which would be accurate. So I just wonder sometimes.......maybe the donks are not really donks after all.......well, at least not all of them

Yes some players will call with ATC hoping to crack you but in the long run they will lose majority of the confrontations with a tight-aggressive player. I play tight aggressive in RL touranment (for the most obvious benefit of stealing blinds and antes once they are pretty good). When big stacks feel like standing up to me, they'll get aggressive with stuff like 75o and hope they catch a piece of the flop.

The benefits outweight the risks with tight style (during the first few hours of a touranment). You can steal more freely, not many people are gonna stand up to you, if the showdowns you've made have shown really good cards. Also, if you've been showing down group 1 hands the entire time, you can raise with junk like 74o and people will respect your raise as being a big hand.

But I don't think playing tight the entire time is good, gotta switch gears or you will blind and ante yourself off waitting for those premium hands!

I truely beleive that playing against a very tight player that does not switch gears is the easiest type of person in poker to play. So yes I believe it does create an image backfire. The tight player allows one to play looser hands because one knows if they hit they can stack the very tight player. Or they can steal little pots until tight player gets a monster. Now this is a diff story if the tight player shifts gears every now and again. But assume they only play tight, all you really need to do is trust them when they are telling you they got something by thier betting and steal from them all other times. Arguements can be made both ways on this subject, but it is definatly easier to make moves on someone playing only tight passive.

A good tight player will soon recognise when somebody is simply playing back at him and should mix up his betting accordingly. The problem with many tighties is they'll cbet the flop and then check the turn, this can soon become predictable and exploitable. Dont fall into this trap

Pretty good thoughts thus far I agree that if someone tries to consistently play with a single style it's just asking for disaster. Granted, a primary style is good to have but if you can't alter it when the situation calls for it ya might as well go play bingo

Tight aggressive is a good style. I agree with others, you do need to throw some chips around on occassion when dealt less than great cards. Mix it up a little, not too much.

There are many ways to handling a player trying to run over you. Reraise and calling are options to slow them down.

I like it when a table is down to 4-5 players, everyone folds to the blinds and the small blind decides they are going to raise me. If I have junk I simply fold maybe 2-3 times. When the blinds increase and they try again, I reraise (cards do not matter, I am playing the player), they fold and I get more in one pot then the other 2-3 times when I folded. Of course if I re-raise with junk, I am still ready to fold to a big shove.

Mix it up but stick with the tight aggressive style blended with some loose well read plays.
