Default internet explorer 8 beta 2

do not download the beta. it has some really nice features and in several years there will be no conflicts with existing web pages. i tried to go back to ie 7 but msft is only offering ie 7 for xp. as far as i can see there is no ie 7 for vista. i would like to download mozilla but i get an error message 'you may not have permision to make changes..login as admin'

you can tell msft sucks, look at their commercials. pathetic.

Default OMG of couse Vista sucks

    Havn't you read the blogs.

Anyway again Im going to suggest this. If you own a computer you should honestly look at disk imaging software. You coulda stepped back to your previous configuration with ease.
Its worth it to start from scratch and make one even because eventually you will need it.

I think the IE 8 beta version is only for developers mostly....or at least that's what I've heard. It's not good at all for just a general user....lots of things a general user can't access for some strange reason. I read a lot of beef about it recently all over the web.... And yeah I agree Microsoft is starting to suck....I think they're just running out of bright ideas, because Vista was a complete flop....

well use alternate web browser such as firefox, there are some others. all i had to do to get windows to allow me to download from mozilla was:
    1. Click "Start", type cmd in the Start Search bar, right click "cmd.exe" and choose Run as Administrator.
    2. In the command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each line:
    net user Administrator /active:yes
    exit
    3. After that, please restart the computer and log on the built-in administrator account.
    Step 2: Change password
    ===================
    1. Click Start Menu, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click switch to a Classic View in left panel.
    3. Double-click User Accounts.
    4. Click on Change password to perform action.
If we are able to log on the new account and change other user account, let's disable the built-in administrator account using the following steps.
Step 3: Disable the built-in Administrator account ===============================
    1. Click "Start", type cmd in the Start Search bar, right click "cmd.exe" and choose Run as Administrator.
    2. In the command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each line:
    net user Administrator /active:no
    exit

easy-courtesy of ms support. free support.

IE 8 is pretty awesome actually. beta is always a risk. one day it will work. one day. a warning that you can't go back to ie 7 if you have vista would have been nice though. i like web slices and sizable text. also if you have multiple web browsers i think you may have to delete cookies from both before downloading a new poker room. downloading and installling poker4ever and getting the right tracker took about 3 hours. it should have only taken 3-5 minutes, but i could not create an account using ie 8. that is why i had to download firefox. this was weird bcz on the p4e.com there was a pop up 'click to install' clicking on that imbedded a bonus-codes/">Poker Bonus Code" onclick="replacer_hook(63)" target="_blank" href="http://www.rakeback.com/poker-bonus-codes/">bonus code other than the one i wanted to use, or maybe it was cause i had only deleted cookies from firefox and not from ie or maybe it was beacuse i had not yet deleted the active admin acct and had to delete p4e from both user accounts or maybe it was just getting around that pop up. i am still not sure which. and of course their support had little idea what i was talking about. fortunately they let me create a new account, after having created one with the wrong tracker and somehow i got the right bonus code in. it was kinda like a rubix cube.

vista. is nice too. you just have to do a lot of trial and error with compatabilty settings.
for example right click ftp client. select properties. now on the compatability tab you will have constantly change the settings to get ftp to run properly. when i run as admin i get blank pages in the cashier. if i do not run as admin i can not save hand history.

then i was trying to download coolhandpoker.exe but was unable to. chp said it was bcz i was in NYS, which is weird beacuse it's part of microgaming and i am able to downlaod most of microgaming's skins. or rooms or whatever they are. i was blaming this on IE8 but i can't install it from firefox either. gonna be on a pc with xp tomorrow, will see if it works there.

Well I can give you a really reputable guy on Ebay that you can buy one for $167 refurbished but I can tell you I just bought one from him and it is freaking awesome...Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz, 40G hard drive, and XP pro...plus it was free shipping too. It runs great...the housing is scratched but I mean the insides are all new and it runs like a dream. Plus comes with XP disk and a crap load of software already installed...So let me know if you want the guy's name and I'll pm you so you can check him out.

    i would like that, yes.
$167? how much ram. XP needs a lot less ram though, 1 should be plenty. Vista needs at least 2 gigs (maybe 1.5) if you want to keep virus protection active.
    that is really cheap. nice.

thats funny though because i have a dell desktop from 2002 that has xp on it. the video card needs to be replaced and dell spare parts wants $220 for it.

Here is the info from the listing of the one I bought:

    Item Specifics - PC Desktops
    Condition: Refurbished
    Processor Type: Intel Pentium 4
    Brand: CM
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Operating System: Windows XP Professional
    Processor Configuration: Single Core
    Primary Drive: CD-ROM
    Memory (RAM): 512 MB
    Bundled Items: Network Card
    Hard Drive Capacity: 40 GB

    Here's his Ebay name: blairtg-3

You can message him by Ebay messages and let him know that "pofolkscollecting" purchased a computer from him and referred you to him for a computer. If you let him know what you need he might be able to custom build one for you and give you a good price.

    Hope this helps!!

    Default flash drive vs. ram

that guy has no pc's listed for sale at the moment.

do you think the following would encroach the effectiveness of ram? once you get into virtual ram on your hard drive you might as well be using an abacus. flash drives are much less expensive than ram plus if you have a lap top much easier to install.

Using memory in your storage device to speed up your computer

Windows ReadyBoost can use storage space on some removable media devices, such as USB flash drives, to speed up your computer. When you insert a device with this capability, the AutoPlay dialog will offer you the option to speed up your system using Windows ReadyBoost. If you select this option, you can then choose how much memory to use for this purpose. However, there are some situations where you may not be able to use all of the memory on your storage device to speed up your computer.

Some universal serial bus (USB) storage devices contain both slow and fast flash memory, and Windows can only use fast flash memory to speed up your computer. So if your device contains both slow and fast memory, keep in mind that you can only use the fast memory portion for this purpose.

The recommended amount of memory to use for Windows ReadyBoost acceleration is one to three times the amount of random access memory (RAM) installed in your computer. For instance, if your computer has 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM and you plug in a 4 gigabyte (GB) USB flash drive, setting aside from 512 MB to 1.5 GB of that drive will offer the best performance boost. The minimum size for any USB flash drive to work with Windows ReadyBoost is 256 MB.

You can enable or disable Windows ReadyBoost for a specific flash drive or other removable storage device. For more information, see Turn ReadyBoost on or off for a storage device.

Aww Okay well like I say he's got a shop so you can email him and let him know what you need and he can likely give you a steal of a price. As for the ReadyBoost thing, the reviews seem to be decent on it, so might be worth a shot if it's not too pricey.

I found this info about it as well, might help to know what kind of drive to get since this lists the best ones to use with ReadyBoost:
