Default Flopped Nuts Gone Wrong any suggestions?

I was recently playing in a (deep) 1/2 No-Limit Cash Game.
    There were only 3 players.
    Me with $340,
Player (X) to my left with $750,
and player (S) to my right with about $100.
It was a fairly loose game without much limping and I noticed that the big stack player was calling almost all of the pre-flop raises to $6.
My strategy was to push the short stack around while kind of avoiding the big stack unless something really lucrative came along...well sure enough it did.
Player X is on the button, S is in the small blind and I am big blind.
I'm looking down at the [2,3 of clubs.]
Player X raises to $6, player S calls and I decide to see a flop with my small suited connectors.
    FLOP: A 4 5 (rainbow)-----GIN!!!! The stone cold Nuts
    Player S checks
There is 18$ in the pot and I decide to bet instead of check the nuts, I lead out with $6.
Player X on the button re-raises me to $18, Player S folds and now action is back on me.
Now, faced with a re-raise here I have to put my opponnent on a pretty strong hand, possibly AK or AQ or maybe even two pair considering he is fairly loose at calling pre flop standard raises.
I weigh my options and instead of just calling his $18 raise I decide to Re-raise him again to $48
    He calls.
Turn Card is the 7 of diamonds making the board now... A 4 5 7
I am positive the 7 did not help him, a great safe card for me. I am first to act.
There was $115 in the pot, I bet $88 into it and player X calls again, this time rather quickly.
    River: A making the board... A 4 5 7 A
A terrible River card for me...I was really hoping the board didn't pair since he might have a set.
I have $190 dollars left. There's $291 in the pot.
I decide to take some time of the clock and then Check. Figuring that if he did have a set and filled up he might value bet me instead of putting me all in and i could flat call saving me some money.
    He immediately shoves All-in.
I really don't see how I can lay my hand down considering he could very well have trip Aces thinking it was good.
    I call.
He shows A 4, two pair on the flop and full house on the river.
    I lose the hand.
If anyone saw any flaws in the way I played the hand or just has any comments to make at all I would love to see them. Thanks.

Fold 2-3 preflop. 9 times out of 10 you'll flop two unders to the board. I save the $4. As played, seems to me with how deep you are, you can fold the river. You can no longer beat anything but a set of aces, and with the betting in previous rounds, he certainly must put you on a hand that can beat a set and should check behind. I'm a bit of a nit, but this looks like a standard puke and fold.

There are a few flaws in your play that I saw.

One, calling the raise from the BB with 23 suited. It is not good to think it would be profitable to see the flop with those type of hands. You could get the butt end of a straight, with someone else having the higher one, you could have a flush, with someone having a higher one, and you know you are behind pre flop, and most likely on the flop. It may be $4 to call into a pot of $14 before rake, but in a cash game, you are looking to make profit, make profitable plays, etc. Calling 23 suited in the BB in a 3 handed game to a very loose player wasn't the best way to maximize your profits.

Another would be to just call the bet on the flop. I can see if you are trying to play sneaky, but your bet on the turn makes it obvious that you have a REALLY strong hand that you are trying to disguise. Either call the re-raise on the flop to check on the turn, or re-raise his raise so there is no drawing, and he might even go all-in pre river.

And one last one is on the river, calling all in when you know you were beat. Your basic instinct told you that you were beat, listen to it. It has taken me a while to hone and listen to my gut instincts (I still haven't mastered them, but I am pretty sure it's better than the Average Joe poker player). When you had put him on two pair on the flop, or a set after his re-raise, it's obvious you were beat. You had $228 left in your stack, plenty to play with. Even though this is a deep stacked cash game, $228 with blinds at $1/$2 is plenty. Double up once or twice, and you made profit and/or broke even.

I know it's hard to lay down big hands, but thats what good poker players do, lay down good hands when they know they are beat. Get used to laying down trips/straights/flushes/boats if you want to make some more profit.

The main problem with your preflop call is that you, and the initial raiser who has a wide range, both are not going to make a hand worth stacking off with often enough to justify your call. In less words, your implied odds are shot to hell because of his wide range.

How to play the flop is completely dependent on your opponents tendencies so I really have no advice there.
