Default An answer to fight the ban??

I've dwelled and dwelled over this ban crap. Here's the only logical solution I can come up with to fight this injustice.

According to the governor's own definition of gambling, it is any activity in which a person risks something of value in order to win a prize. He also goes on to say that online poker revenue is hurting the Kentucky economy. I call bullshit, and this is how:

I say we all stand up and bring up the fact that all online poker rooms offer FREE games. A FREE game therefore does not qualify (by his own definition) as gambling, as there is NOTHING AT RISK. Likewise, any funds won in these FREE games is NOT Kentucky revenue, and thus does not affect the state's economy. Thirdly, if a person did win this free money, it would be paid to their poker account by the parent site, NOT KENTUCKY. So, if that person decided to gamble with those funds, they are not gambling with Kentucky revenue, and still are not costing the state a dime.

So, this said, it should be ILLEGAL to ban these sites because the sites in their entirety do not constitute gambling. If any portion of these sites offers FREE gaming, then they should lawfully be allowable, to protect the rights of citizens to free gaming.

    Thoughts???

    Are you a lawyer? Haha.

But This was exactly why I say I am suprised at how little some politicians know about the law, but normal people like us know more than them.

And also note that poker sites DO NOT advertise there .COM versions of all there sites. ONLY the .NET versions, which, ALL the .NET versions of the gambling sites are ALL FREE/PLAY CHIPS.

This is why I am saying they can not even fathom how much more money gambling is bringing into there state, even online. Think about it. People play this freeroll, they win a couple bucks, turn it into a hundred bucks, and they have a bankroll. Proper bankroll management and a little common poker sense will lead that bankroll into hundreds, even a thousand dollars. They withdraw that FREE money, and spend it on there taxed items in Kentucky.

Why would anyone want to take this away from there site?

I know what you mean...it's insane...I guess it boils down to them not wanting us to receive untaxed money...they want to first tax our income, and then tax us at the stores we spend that already taxed income. Jeez...

Oh, and I think u got the .NET and .COM bass-ackwards lol

    Default Prohibition

I have said it before and will say it again, Prohibition has never worked and it never will.

It can be booze, drugs, prostitution, tattoos, hair color, whatever.....whenever a government or other entity has tried to wipe the Earth clean of something unpopular or on the fringe or even mainstream (as poker has become) they have failed. You can not put a stop to it and the sooner the idiots in charge get this through their thick skulls the better. Until then we will live in a world full of limits on others and minority myopic translations of the definition of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

There are plenty of revenue opportunities for governments in the poker and drug world. Booze and cigarettes are alreay saturated with taxes, but gambling and recreational drugs are not. The feds would rather spend money fighting a losing battle then to make money on something considered taboo by some. The government actually thinks it can win these 'wars' (insanity). They can not, lets see, marijuana was outlawed around 1922, hmmmm 86 years later and the verdict is?

Poker will prevail, the people will play, threats are of no concern. The game is the allure, no institution can break the sprit of the human being and no one is going to break up the game for very long. Just like the drug dealer on the corner, take one away and there are countless others ready to jump into the opening. Break up a poker game and the players will branch out and find 10 more games to play in. Poker is here to stay, on the felt and in virtual land.

Good Luck with Kentucky Lady, until then, see you at the tables.

    Bye,

I wish I could say I believe that Vito, but UB and AP have already blocked us, as well as many Micro Gaming sites...Prohibition may not work, but blocking sure does...

Who's to say you can't make a petition? Go to the local casino and god knows how many poker fiends will sign that thing. Just state in the petition everything you have been stating on here and I am sure people will sign it. That is the most I can think of without taking actual lawyers into court...

If I lived in Kentucky, I would sign that in a heart beat.

Just keep stating in there about how online poker should be taxed INSTEAD of banned. This way, it's either play poker that the state is taking taxed out of, or don't play at all. Either way, it's a win-win situation I think. But it would be hard to convince them (government of Kentucky) of that, since they think that "The Kids of Kentucky need to be protected from online gambling, etc., etc. (insert rest of BS cr@p here)."

EDIT: Not even a proxy server will get by this?

A proxy would not solve the issue of when it came time to withdraw money....changing my address would require another upload of photo id and proof of address...that would be an EPIC FAIL...

    Hi liladypoker
I have said the last time that it is opression to prohibit any person from any freedom of choice.
Just look what's happening in Zimbabwe, India,Irak, etc.etc. where the regeem is lobsided and the people are bored and restricted from freedom of choice, they start taking all their frustration out on innocent people.....
That said, I don't think we can honestly help you in this situation, but you and you're comunity have rights and should take action....

    Default Remote Desktop

Time to put a computer at at friends house out of state and remote in. The poker rooms do not care where you live, they will send a check from a revolving bank account. I would offer, but I live in the sticks and am still a year or three away until I can dump dialup.

With the new procedures will come new work arounds. I bet there will be remote services offered from someone somewhere to help circumvent the URL blocking. With this censureship it is nice to know we now live in China. I guess next is number of child limits and a state religion to follow.

How sad, here we are on the verge of the second great depression and the government has no clue how to tap obvious revenue streams.

    Good Luck to you.......

Well lets look at the bright side people! I still have access to Stars, Tilt, Carbon, and Nordica! I can't imagine stars and tilt giving in to this so readily
