It’s funny how my New Year’s Resolution often conflict or contradict my poker resolutions for the new year.
Case in point:
In 2009 I vowed to be more understanding and tolerant of people regardless if they’re really idiots or not.
In poker, I vowed to punish idiot donkey players who chase their gutshots too much.
In real life I vowed to be more giving with regards to charities and such.
In poker, I vowed to take as much as I can from anyone I’m playing against.
In real life, I vowed to take some chances and be braver when opportunities arise.
In poker, I vowed to play tighter and not gamble as much, such as calling a raise with 4/5 suited out of position.
In 2009, I vowed to be a kinder and gentler person, a person who shows empathy to those who are less fortunate than I am.
In poker, I vowed that I wouldn't feel bad anymore when I put a bad beat on somebody, after all it's happened to me so many times, it's only fitting that once in awhile I get lucky.
In real life, I vowed to eat healthier, lose some weight and get fitter.
In poker, if I’m to reach my goals, it means a lot of hours spent sitting in chair, eating junk food and clicking my mouse.
Now that’s a dilemma.
Here’s to hoping that your 2009 will be much more +EV than 2008.
