Default How to play AA pre-flop

There are many ways you can play AA pre-flop, but this is the one that I think works the most and will get you the most chips and money if playing ring games.

Ok lets say you are playing 9 handed MTT the buy-in was $30 dollars. You have 20,000 in chips
You are dealt AA and you are "under the gun". (the first player to act) this is my favorite pos. because you can control the table. Of course with a monster like AA you raise, but don't raise more than 3x the big blind say the blinds were 200/400 i would raise 875 but no more than 1,000 because that will make your opponents fold in a heart beat. There are 2 people that call your raise, so know what do you do. Say the flop was Ks 2d 7c you are first to act so I would check hoping that your opponents got something in the flop,(keep in mind if your playing against good players they most likely wont play K7, but watch out for sets.) everyone checks,( if someone bet i would just call you want to disguise your hand.)the turn came 10h, your opponent put out a bet of 800 not a very big bet so In this situation consider raising or calling its really your choice if u think your opponent is trying to bluff at you I would just call you don't want to scare him/her off. Your other opponent folded, so you're now playing heads up. Most of the time if you are being aggressive heads up you will probably win it. This is not what you want to do in this situation, you want your opponent to do this so he just hands you free money.River 2c So he puts out a bet of 1250, he checked the flop, bet turn, and know bets river. In this situation I would raise to 3000 or consider moving all in hoping that he calls. Most of the time they will fold if you go all in, but if your playing against an ok player he will probably call with top pair.

I hope this helps Good Luck at the Tables

Your main goal with AA is to either get all-in pre-flop, or at least narrow it to heads-up going into the flop. Heads-up you are 81% pre, if 2 come with you it falls to 63%, and 3...yikes. There can be no set rule, but the guidelines usually are to make 3x-5x BB raises to open mostly, and the rare min-raise to shake it up. AA is not a hand you want to keep calling with and let your opponent with KQ,KJ,QJ, T9, etc catch 2 pair. Take the pot down and move on.

I agree with the others, this is a bad way to play AA. It's also not a ring game, it's a MTT.

    Awesome, thanks OP!!

This is indeed terrible. Even a limp is better than a minraise.

This is a really nice advice, i'm always in trouble how to play AA or even KK properly so that i don't let the opponents know the strength of my hand. But i think it's ok what u wrote, the 875 bet preflop is not too high, but it's enaugh to get folded the useless hands, although some people call the 2-2,5BB bet with quite bad cards too, sometimes i got such crazy callers.

actually I hope more people listen to the advice of the thread starter. Will make the tables more profitable for those of us who disagree.

Playing AA is game flow dependant, player dependant and most importantly position dependent. Post flop AA is not ALWAYS an all in high. The object of AA is to get all the money in pre-flop where you are a 76% against any random two cards villians could be holding and over 80% against Top 10% hands (in fact AA .v. AK, common tourney situation all in preflop, your 91% to win, so it is best to get it all in on the preflop). If I was in the same situation, but with loose players at my table with AA UTG, I would actually consider an all in under the gun, espically if I have decent players that realize image because I am very aggressive when I play a hand. They might see it as a steal and call me with any sort of small-med PP, A8+, AKs-KQs. but the all in needs to be only a small weapon. mix it in with standard raises for you (if 2.15x is your standard raise so be it but work on improving that, you really devalue big pocket pairs when you give awesome odds for other hands to call, even from the blinds and/or button). I raise 3-3.5x for most of my hands from raising with 56s (BSB play) or raising with AA but again, this is all typical for me and what works for me may not work for you. BUT if we wanna play AA to get the most bad beats, we will review your post
I just won $50 from you, that you could have used, to buy food, but you can't now!
