Default Taking a break from poker

Been off of work since sunday, and had a great run until tonight. I was up to $1300 (started with 1K) at 2/5NL, after making $2500 in 3 days playing 1/2. I was playing very solid.

I got into hand with this guy who just took down a multi-way pot by beating someone who flopped a str8 and the str8 flush draw by turning J for set and paired board on river.

I had AA, limped UTG, got the Raise to $35, This guy re-raises to $75, I announced all in simply because re-raising, I will still get 2-3 callers. He looks at his hand, says "I won't ever lay this down"...calls with KK, hits K on the flop. The losing to a 2 outer didn't bother me, the amount of money lost, didn't bother me

what really got under my skin is how he acted and embrassed me in front of a large group of people. I wanted to just crawl under a rock.

When I do come back to Poker, it will be online only. Soo I don't have to have people in my face going "BOO YAH! I TOLD YOU IT WAS COMING! AND YOU STILL WANTED TO GET ALL IN WITH ME! NOW WHAT HUH!?" It was all I could do to not knock him the **** out.

Soo ya, I am taking a break from live play for a VERY VERY VERY long time. Expect to see the Wyteman account in full force in the next few weeks.
I just won $50 from you, that you could have used, to buy food, but you can't now!

Sorry to hear about the beat, and how the guy acted afterward. It's a shame when people act like that at the poker table. He got lucky, no need to rub it in. It's supposed to be a gentleman's game after all.

I am sorry to hear about that. I remember having someone like that at my first poker home game (almost made me quit poker all together). He would play like a donk, and announce to the table about any little thing just to get on someone's nerve. I remember once he played 7 2 os UTG after I raised it big from the button. He flopped mid pair, and we got it all in on the turn. He paired his 2 on the turn, and won it on the river. He was yelling, screaming, hooting, and clapping because of it. I looked at him in disgust and did not say a word. I only expressed my feelings inwards towards him, and inside, there were millions of torture devices put into play on him (yeah, I was sadistic like that back then).

But I learned that in the long run, those type of people will make me money. And whenever I know I am playing with someone like that, all I do is be just a little bit more annoying until they are gone. Then, I go back to being my regular self.

Trust me, I was exactly the way he was to me and he let off a bit. He was still like that, only not on a major scale and it didn't irritate me in which the level he brought it down to.

So I am sorry to see you go because of such a minor reason, but I guess everyone has their reasons. At least you are not quitting poker all together for a period of time.

Hey Wyte, that guy was an asshole plain and simple. Some people just don't have any class. I wouldn't worry about that guy, I bet that if you got back on the horse against this guy you'll come out on top.

Good luck to you Wyte, you've always been a good guy on these forums and I wish nothing but the best for you.

I don't understand how he embarassed you.

I'm sure everyone at the table knew he just got lucky. I mean it sucks for you to lose but no matter what he says he's making himself look like the idiot.

Make him a challenge, that you will make any size all-in bet pre-flop, with you holding AA and he can have any two cards (other than AA) that he is feeling lucky with. Do it over and over as many times as he's willing.

    Default Keep Playing

I can't tell you how many Double or Nothing tourneys on PS I've played where two players on the very first hand get it all in with KK v AA. It's uncanny how often the computers deal those two together. And occassionally a K hits the board.

It's a classic bad beat which happens when you play a lot (either online or live). The guy is entitled to celebrate a little, but he went overboard. Rubbing it in is poor sportsmanship.

Take some time off, but don't let the one a*shole keep you away, especially if you do well playing live.
If you always stop while you're ahead, you'll never lose.

    Too emotional!

I've deleted the rest of my response so many times already for fear of offending but feck it, grow some balls.

It's all a part of poker. Think of some of the pros and what would their response be in a similar situation? I'm sure they wouldn't wimp out and give up.

Ya after taking a short break, my life went thru a tailspin. Work kept me busy, I havn't posted a positive session since March 22nd and all the plans I had for the WSOP circuit event at Harrahs fell thru because the person buying my house didn't have the funds needed to complete the buying of my house on May 5th, like we agreed upon.

I am not going to play right now, not having posted a winning session in over 3 months has kinda wore on my psyche some. Jjust spending the past 3 months getting my money in VERY good and losing, just not in the same mental condition I have been and I know if I play right now, I will lose even before I sit down, so i'll just save my money.

I havn't spent alot of time on, trying to get back into it. Back in Feb, I moved from the hole I lived in near the 9th ward, to a much more relaxed and friendly neighborhood right outside of new orleans, and then everything just seemed to fall apart after my birthday lol. April was busy at work, terrible in my personal life, just alot of stuff going against me. May was better but I will only be very happy and alot more stress free when this house sells (and to those who are selling a house WITHOUT a realtor, you know exactly the kind of stress I am talking about).

Soo ya, I am back, sry to worry some of you. I will only be doing discussions about poker, no playing. I am going back, re-reading all my books, analyzing my game again, making sure that I am going in making all the right decisions before I start playing again.

Edit: most importantly, before I go back to playing, I will make sure I win the mentally game back!
