Default A true act of sportmanship

First post so aplogises for any thing wrong!!!

I recently was playing a live 3/2 cash game at my local casino and was on a real tear when the ulitmate cooler hand was delivered to be. It wasnt the hand I really wanted to share but one of the most unbelievable acts of sportsmanship that I have seen at a table

I was on the button and dealt A A with two raise in front of me i reraised from $12 to $50 to go with both guys calling

    Flop: A A J

First guys checks next guy takes it to $100 and I reraise to $200 (suspecting a flush draw) first guy folds and second guys calls

    Turn: 9

Guy shoves all in, he has me well and truly covered so I make the call for my remaining $500 he reveals KQ everyone at the table gasped and he says to me well played nice hand

River: Yep you guessed it 10 hits his one outer on me to the delight of everyone cheering seeing the Royal Flush, expect for one person my opponent he just sat there looked at me and said "You deserved better, you played the hand perfectly and then this happens to you"

So as I get up to walk to the bar and drink my sorrows, the guy turns to the dealer and asks him to pass to me my starting stack of $200 (maximum buy in). I will be honest I couldnt believe it I shook his hand and said thank you and continued to play

I ended getting to close to $1K that night and as he left to cash in I got up and passed him the $200 in chips and said "Thanks but this is yours"

We are best friends now and often play together at the tables and always talk about that hand.

Sometimes we forget that Poker is just a game and should be enjoyed by everyone so when you next get that bad beat remember poker has a way of paying you back for its mistakes

Wow; that is an awesome story. Kudos to both you and your opponent for taking such good care of each other. Poker is indeed a sport, and a game of skill. Luck does, however, play a roll in it, and showing sportsmanship, honor, and humility in victory, and defeat, pays homage to skill and luck.

When we remember to exercise good will towards others, I do believe that it finds its way back to us. And there will come a day when that good will returns that could mean all the difference, or just a small one, to its benefactor. Either way, it just might be what this world needs a little more of...

Amazing story...very nice to hear such an unusually positive outcome to a bad beat! Not only the outstanding sportsmanship, but that you also gained a tight friendship from it as well. Very cool!

I have to ask, since you said this was at a live casino game...did that hand not pay out a bad beat jackpot?

I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

I am afraid not I do understand most casinos do this but at the time I played this no.

I am not sure if this has changed recently as it has been a while since I played at the casino.

    Thanks for the question
