Default Yet More Bankroll Questions from DeW

So I think I've finally noticed a trend in my bankroll management. Anytime I cash out, I tend to go on a losing spell because I freak out a bit. I think this is caused because I see my bankroll growing and growing, and then I see a huge chunk gone. Albeit, the chunk is in my pocket, but it throws me off some. So here is my question. As you play poker and build a bankroll, when do you decide to cash out money, how do you decide how much to cash out, and is there anything else I should know in this area? I'm still a newbie, but I've started seeing a very real and continuous profitability in poker. I've kept logs of my play etc, and when I'm building everything just gradually climbs, but anytime near a cash out, things go out of wack for a while and then I go back to this gradual climb. I've realized my weakest area is managing my roll. I'm not sure how/when to cash out etc... So any advice would be nice here.

you might already know this. but when you cash out, you have to lower your buy in limit. you should be playing a percentage of your bankroll.

personally, i like to cash out about 1/3 of my bankroll at a time. it gives me something to build back up to.

I dont think there's any right or wrong time or any right amount to cash out. The important thing is to remain playing under BR management and continuing your 'A' game. If after cashing out you dont have the 20 buy-ins necessary for whichever level you choose to play then you have to drop down. This for me is where so many go wrong. They think because they're comfortably beating their level it's ok to carry on despite being under 'rolled. A couple of beats and their game often becomes affected. They're either folding at times they'd normally continue because they're playing scared or overplaying because they're trying desperately to rebuild their roll.

Probably the reason you are cashing out is you have just gone through a winning streak. Why else would you be cashing out? All winning streaks must come to an end.

Whether you left the money in or not you were probably about to have a temporary setback.

If you're always playing the same stakes, then when you cash out I would leave an amount that you're comfortable playing with at your stakes. Personally I don't cash out unless I need the money because I'm trying to build my roll and move up stakes. If you're moving up stakes, make sure you drop down after you cash out to build back up.

No... I don't cash out just after huge wins/streaks. Therefore, your explanation is pretty far off.

Thanks to those who have given input, I'm still looking for more though.

It could just be subconscious inhibition. I used to have that same issue too. I'd cash out after seeing a fairly good sized sum in the wallet for a while, and then when beginning the rebuilding process, I'd be a little less willing to make risky moves that I otherwise would have made if the "cushion" was still in the wallet. I think everybody goes through this, and plus the fact that, using proper BR management, you have to switch levels, which can sometimes throw people off since the play varies so much between levels.

For example, if you've played $100NL for a while, and then withdraw, and you find yourself back down to $25NL for example, you've probably gotten used to playing a certain way at the higher level, and having to revert again might screw you up until you get back in the swing of things. I don't think you have a serious problem, honestly... sounds perfectly normal to me. There's really no comfortable way to revert back and forth between levels without some adjustments involved, and it's not always going to go well starting in. But as you get more settled into the level, it'll sort itself out.

Sorry this was more of a ramble, than my usual cut and dry, but I'm in kind of a hurry atm lol

I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah
