Default Cashing out part of your bankroll

How often do you cash out part of your bankroll and how much of it do you cash out?

I recently ran my budget for the upcoming months and realized that it was going to be extremely tight. So I cashed out 2/3rds of my bankroll on Nordica in case I need the extra money. I hope it doesn't take months to get here but 4-5 weeks is fine with me. I am easily ok until then. Because I keep my poker money and real life money distinct, this is usually not an issue for me. But I still need the money around.

I haven't been willing to cash out the bankroll before because I was trying to build it up to $1,000 from $0. I was a little over $900 but I would rather have the money on hand and just restart from $300 again.

I know that some people will cash out when they reach a certain amount. Or maybe you cash out once every so often... and a percentage of your profits. So, how often do you cash out and what reasons do you need to cash out? I've cashed out from other sites before mainly because I wanted to use the money for something else. I wasn't playing with most of it and decided to take it and use it for something better. With this $600 now... that will be over $900 this year I have taken out from my profits. That is over a year of play at my limits though. So it is a big amount for me to take out. And it is leaving me really depleted compared to the level I have been comfortable with.

Anyway, I am wondering. Who else has been in this spot? Or what reasons do you need?

I keep my roll at $3000, at the end of the month I take out everything over that. (winnings+cleared bonuses). I keep 3 months worth of rakeback there in case I run really bad and need to reload my roll back up.
Limit poker is a science, but no-limit is an art. In limit you are shooting at a target. In no-limit, the target comes alive and shoots back at you.

One of these days I would like to have a bankroll of $3,000 for poker. But it really isn't practical for me at this time. But if I keep playing and building it up -- as well as getting my real life organized -- it will happen eventually.

I have not taken any of my bankroll off the sites EVER.

I have accounts on 4 sites. I started each with a "first time deposit" on each site and cleared some sort of bonus on all of them. Once the bonus cleared, I always pulled out my original deposit. My bankroll is all profit (winnings, cleared bonuses, converted points, rakeback, etc.) and none of my own original money.

When reloads were offerred, I have deposited additional money to all of the sites at different times and then pulled my deposit out once the reload was cleared. I've had to rebalance my accounts at the 4 sites a couple of times (take $ profit from site A and move to site C) so I could always play them all at the same buy-in.

I've always looked at this as an easier way to do the Chris Ferguson Challenge. I never felt any of my deposits were ever at at risk of loss because there was always a bonus that would be paid into my account.

I am trying to build my total bankroll to $10,000 on all sites combined. Currently, I have been in a range of $2500. - $3000 for the last couple weeks. I've been playing for "real money" for about 3 1/2 years.

I used to take increments out once a month, kind of like having pocket money to spend. So, for example, if by the end of the month I had $400, I'd take out $300 and leave the rest. I didn't like the idea of starting all over again either, considering the limits I was grinding at and my love for MTTs, so I wanted to be sure I had a little cushion in case of a bad run, I wouldn't have to deposit again. Worked out pretty well until the ban hit...
I see you talking but all I hear is blah blah blah

I'm letting my roll grow, and cashing out my rakeback each week to live off. Rakeback is easily enough to do everything with.

When it comes to bankroll management there are some very easy rules which I have applied over the years which have seemed to be successful.

At some time you need or want to remove money from your account as a reward for all you hard work and each persons requirements are different. There really is no such hard and fast rule on what you should withdraw and how often but here is how I manage my bankroll

    1. Never withdrawl more than what your bankroll will allow you to play:
I have spoken to numerous ppl and seen a number of post where ppl withdraw money and all of a sudden go on a downswing, quiet simply this is varience and you need to accept it. Further research by myself and players is they took out too much and continued to play at the same level dont fall into this trap. As I play mainly cash I will never withdraw below 20 BI for SNG's an 50 BI for MTT's of the level I am currently playing or want to play there not risking you bankroll when you go on a losing streak.

    2. Withdrawl at the end of the month: I have been doing this for over a year and I find by making one withdrawl a month allows for me to cover variance and downswings. Companies report profits at the end of the month not the end of the week or day so treat you bankroll the same

    3. Take 50% of your profit: Again everyone is different and needs will depend on each person but this is how I do it and this allows two things 1. Nice reward for all your hardwork and 2 Builds your bankroll at the same time to allow you to move up in levels

Good Luck at the tables and I hope this helps

This is a good point. I was playing as high as $25NL with my old bankroll (and was almost rolled for $50NL). But knew when I took this out that $10NL was going to be the upper limit until I rebuilt it. That is fine with me because I play anywhere from $2NL-$25NL... and now I just took the upper end off. I left myself with 30 buy-ins for $10NL and many more buy-ins for the lower levels.

The last thing I want to do is take my money off... lose what is left... and be unable to play.

if you go on a losing streak, you have to keep cutting your buy-ins. easier said than done. i tend to do the opposite
